Album Notes MARC (SONGS FROM GRANADA TV) contains performances broadcast on Marc Bolan's 6-part television series broadcast on the BBC in August & September 1977.Recorded live in 1977. Includes liner notes by Martin Barden.Marc Bolan is known as the father of glam, a prototypical punk, and a member of the famous club of iconic rockers who died young. Not many people recall that he had his own TV show, a six-part series, in his native England. The year was 1977, and though Marc Bolan hadn't had a hit in years he was starting to resurface, his resurgence partly due to the emergence of punk and a renewed appreciation of the influence of T. Rex. Beginning with " Hi, this is a show called MARC, and that's me!" this collection features songs from all phases of Bolan's career, from early hits like "Ride a White Swan" through later mid-'70s singles like "Dandy in the Underworld." These versions may lack the visceral impact of the studio recordings, but Bolan's vocals sound great; his reedy voice is still supple. And for T. Rex fans, there's a definite novelty to hearing Bolan introduce one of his classics with: "This is song called "Jeepster! Goodbye!" | |||||||||||||
