Marantz CD-5400 CD Player

After 12 years of use my old player was not reading my CD's reliably. A quick check on eBay showed an auction underway for this Marantz unit. After reading a few positive reviews and taking a chance on the seller's warning that the remote did not work, I bid for and won this superb player. What a bargain! The remote just needed new batteries and all was fine.

The audio quality far exceeds that from my old player - sparkling top notes and bass resonance I never knew existed! All delivered with breath taking clarity and precission. The only thing lacking were the audio leads (not mentioned by the seller, but noted in the manual - that was included!) but a visit to Maplins put that right.

So, a very positive eBay experience and a super buy, delivered in perfect condition in the original box.

AFTER SEVERAL LONG LISTENING SESSIONS, I FOUND THE CD5400 TO BE A STUNNER FOR THE MONEY, NOT THE BEST CD PLAYER, BUT AT ITS RRP £150 I DOUBT THERE IS BETTER. WHAT HIFI RAVED THIS IS A BARGAIN AND THEY COULD SELL IT FOR £250 AND IT WOULD BE A BEST BUY - I AGREE, I HAVE HEARD WORSE THAN THIS FOR MORE MONEY. I HONESTLY THINK MONEY WON'T BUY A BETTER CHOICE UNLESS YOU SPEND £300+ INTO THE ARCAM 73T, NAD 542 LEAGUE, OTHERWISE TRY ONE 2ND HAND FOR AROUND £70-80 THEY SEEM TO HOLD THEIR MONEY BECAUSE OF THE REVIEWS. BUT FOR SURE IT'S WORTH CHECKING OUT. IT CAN HANDLE BETTER AMPS AND SPEAKERS TOO, BECAUSE IT HAS A WARM GENEROUS SOUND, NO TONAL HARDNESS HERE. VERY DETAILED FOR THE MONEY THOUGH WITH GOOD IMAGERY & BALANCE. IT'LL MAKE YOU PLAY CD AFTER CD, WITH YOU THINKING WHY YOU'VE SAVED YOURSELF A FEW HUNDRED. THEY ARE EXTENSIVELY UPGRADEABLE TOO - OP AMPS, CLOCK, CAPS ETC FOR APPROX £100 IT SOUNDS LIKE A £600 PLAYER.....
