One of our all time classic films about an all time classic dilema- the break with Rome. This story is one man's journey against his King in favour of his conscience and beliefs. Superb acting and casting in a period drama with some excellent speeches and backdrops. I've seen this film a few times now and its a favourite in my collection. Ideal for children too studying The Tudors (my 8 year old watched it spellbound with a little bit of help following the plot!)

A good film, although very long in some bits of it. Any Tudor fan will want this film, but 'the other Boleyn girl' brigade will be wise to keep away as it has Minimal Tudor court life involved.

Very boring at points, and very exciting at others. Stays true to the histories as we know them.

Only buy if you are hardcore Tudor fan or doing studies.

I saw this quite a long time ago and always remembered it as being excellent and particularly enjoying the role played so well by Paul Schofield. I thought it was so good I would like to buy it to keep and watch whenever I wished.

A Man For All Seasons (DVD 2001)

We were prompted to take a second look at this movie by the death of its star, Paul Schofield. We were concerned that perhaps it would have dated, in the seven years since it was released. Far from it. Man for all Seasons stands the test of time. Top of all qualities is the script, without which no movie can
be great. The writing is first rate, intellient, well-paced, relevant to today, thoughtful, engaging. The performances, as you would expect, are the best.
The trial scene towards the close of the film is crisp, telling and speaks
volumes for the motives and aims of each character. Obviously this is a historical costume drama, set in the time of Hnery VIII. Unless this sort of movie is anathema, then I thoroughly recommend you see AMFAS.

  A FILM FOR ALL SEASONS
Review created: 17/02/08

The quality of the script, screenplay, actors and acting in this excellent film, lifts it above many others that have attempted to cover this turbulent period of English religious history. In general it is accurate historically, although Thomas More appears to be cast in a rather more (no pun intended) sympathetic role than perhaps he is entitled, given his determined attack on Protestantism and support for the notorious execution of heretics. There is no solid evidence that he was directly involved in the burnings himself.
Nevertheless, he stood by his religious convictions to the point of death and Paul Schofield plays the role of diplomat, lawyer, orator and writer, brilliantly. The film is inspirational and full marks to Schofield, John Hurt, Orson Welles, Robert Shaw, Wendy Hiller and the rest of the cast. A witty and erudite film full of memorable quotations.

A Man for al l Seasons

Excellent acting and well filed semi- documentary of Sir Thomas Moore refusal to support the divorce of Henry the V111 to Catherine of Spain his late brother's wife.

It touches on the corruption and skull duggery of the time. The excellent dialogue and banter between the characters is clever and entertaining. A very good historical film that as the title suggests is for all seasons.

Well recommended if you like historical drama.
