Description
MAMMA MIA is the story of Sophie, a young woman living on a picturesque Greek island with her mother, Donna. Together, Donna and Sophie run a ramshackle island inn, and they are in the midst of preparing for Sophie's wedding. As the wedding approaches, Sophie becomes troubled by the fact that she has never known her father. She was the result of one of her mother's summer flings, and her mother has never revealed her father's identity. When Sophie stumbles upon her mother's diary, she learns that there are three possible men who could be her dad. Without telling her mother, she invites all three to her wedding. When Harry, Sam, and Bill all arrive at the same time, Donna is of course shocked and overwhelmed by seeing her old lovers again after such a long time. She turns to her two best friends, Tanya and Rosie, for their support, and vows to just get through the wedding and weekend. Meanwhile, Sophie spends time with each man, determined to learn the truth.

My oh my
Born in 1976, I missed Abba first time round, but fell in love with the music as a five year old, and loving the vocal harmonies and pop finish.

I was dreading Mamma Mia and what possibly could destroy my dream, I would imagine every person remembers the school disco and Dancing Queen. Synonymous with Uncle Herbert murdering it on the microphone, I was a little nervous sitting down to watch this.

but

WOW

Meryl Streep deserved the Best Female Performance at the National Movie Awards (UK) earlier in the year. Utterly believable as a single Mum (Donna) who has a dream, her singing in this is absolutely brilliant. She belts out many of the classics, which we know and love Abba for - but the star of the show has to be Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) as her daughter. And my oh my she can sing.

Synopsis

Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård play the three potential fathers to Donna's daughter (Sophie), the result of a summer of play in the Greek Islands. Sophie decides to invite her three potential fathers to her wedding convinced she will know who it is.

Julie Walters as Rosie and Christine Baranski as Tayna are simply fabulous in the supporting role, and also deserve a mention.

The songs of Abba have been reworked into dialogue, and interwoven into the plot of the film, and even Mr (I do not like Abba) Chris enjoyed it

So much so I put Abbamania on and had a round of guess the artist -

High School Musical Next. . . .
