Solid, chunky, effective

I bought this because my previous Magellan SporTrak died after the battery compartment fell off (my own fault for not tightening it properly) and immersed itself in the scuppers. It was never the same again. I use a handheld GPS for yacht racing so it has to be robust, waterproof, the screens must be easily customisable, reasonable battery life, and clear and easy to use with one hand. I race all over Europe so it's important that I can download charts from my PC - but I don't want to be restricted to the limited speed of the PC connection, so SD cards are a must. Positives about this model: fits the hand well, takes SD cards, highly customisable, accurate to WAAS, well spaced and labelled buttons, battery compartment more secure than its predecessors. Against: no attachment for lanyard or strap (essential at sea), fiddly PC connector (so use the SD card - but don't buy the Magellan ones, they are hugely expensive compared to generics!), high cost of MapSend software maps.
