Madonna - Like A Prayer (CD 1994)

What I find fascinating about Madonna is that throughout her career every time she makes a poor album she returns with a milestone. "Like A Prayer" was the second ("Like A Virgin" being the first). Although Madonna was massive in the 1980s, by 1988 critics began to suggest that Madonna was disappearing from pop music like the decade itself, as she seemed to be more involved in acting and had not done a full studio album since 1986. Then she returned triumphantly with a new mature look and a fantastic pop album. Perhaps divorces aren't always a bad thing?

Forget the controversy surrounding the title track's promo video, the Pepsi fallout and her failed marriage, this album proved that she was still an amazing artist. "Like a Prayer" can be considered to be her most accomplished artistic statement of the time, incorporating rock, dance, pop, soul, and funk elements into the album and some of her most mature and personal lyrics dealing with issues such as her own faith, her mother's death, family, abuse and her divorce.

The album eventually spawned five singles and some of Madonna's most iconic imagery of her career. Stand out tracks for me are the title track, Cherish and Pray For Spanish Eyes. There is one blot on the landscape which was her collaboration with Prince - I think that song should have been left off the album and become a B-Side. Still, you can't fail to moved by the personal tone of Madonna's lyrics in the ballads and the funked up dance tunes on this masterpiece.

classic album from americas queen of pop. after a year time out which saw the rise of kylie in the uk charts, madonna came storming back with this studio album 'like a prayer'. the controversial lead single and promo video became an instant classic and other gems followed. express yourself, cjerish and the one to forget - dear jessie. i bought this album on vinal first time around (20 years ago - can you believe that!!!) it might end up om ebay just now.

I had this on cassette tape when younger & loved it - the tape a bit worn now so decided to get on cd.Madonna at her best!

this has got to be one of madges best albums i just love all the tracks as it brings back memories as most of her albums get better each time but like a prayer is a classis album

I love all the songs on this CD as they are either slow or fast paced. The reason for buying this CD is I had the tape many years ago which has unfortunately got lost so decided to bring back the memories with this CD.

Weather your a big fan of Madonna or just like some of her tunes, this is the album for you. It has alot of her earlier stuff, but, is very good !
