Quirky and a little off the wall, this collection of commercially accessible yet truly indie-feel pianoustic choons is characterised by Nash's street-level lyrics. 'Foundations' of course should've been a number one hit but becomes destined to become part of some distant 'Greatest Number Two's Of The Naughties' collection in about 2020 because of the tedious 'Umbrella'.

Kate Nash has something different to offer from her contemparies and the tipping of her cap to The Streets and Jamie T are there for all to see. The most blatant and lazy comparison comes though when you mention a certain Lily Allen. Nash's stuff is edgier, more mature and bitter constructed but the fact that she delivers in a Lilyesque Laaaaaaannndon accent draws immediate comparisons.

There are some excellent indie-pop songs within this collection, some lilting, drifty acoustic laments and some damn random drop-ins too.

There's room for people like Kate Nash because she brings creativity and a little bravery to the table and as a debut album, this is a polished and impressive display of what she can deliver over the coming years.

This album is so good! i love listening to it on the bus on the way to work. Kate is so talented and clever with her lyrics. I personally prefer her slower songs such as 'nicest thing' but all of her tracks are good. Can't wait for her to bring another song or album out!

Its an awsome Album. But you have to be pretty open minded within your music tastes to fully love the tunes she has on here. Ive given it 4/5 as im a lover of dance music and it was a change to like this kind of music taste. Her voice is flawless and her songs are random and basically things from every day life. If you are looking for a lovey dovey one .. skip to "Nicest Thing" ... WELL DONE KATE NASH, YOU HAVE GOT YOURSELF A NEW FAN :)

I used to be a big hip-hop head but now searching for different stuff as modern american rap is utter nonsense. This blew me away, i do like some nice female vocals but this girl can write!!! 4 outstanding tracks. very impressed - is on continual rotation in my car!

Made of Bricks is a surprisingly fresh album. I remember pulling into the drive at home and hearing the track `Foundations' on the car radio, and despite having just picked up a takeaway, I sat somewhat entranced by Kate Nash's voice and the soft, sexy melody unfolding for the first time in my ears. There's a strange, almost back tingling sensation in her particular style of down to earth vocalisation. I love Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony, The Beatles, The Scissor Sisters, virtually anything with a good base beat and/or lyrics that I can empathise with, and Kate does it for me, beautifully. I am not accustomed to this style of music, but I have been swayed, and enjoy the album tremendously, not bad for a 56 year old who tends to play only the albums I already have and rarely buy new ones. I bought this one for its intrinsic melodious beauty and raw honesty, perhaps being into Reiki and healing people helps me to appreciate it more than others who have rejected it outright, but everyone's needs in this strange world are very diverse. I love it, so there!

Slightly scatty, neurotic music. Stand ouy tunes include Dickhead, I Want Your Kiss Boy and Mariella. Interesting use of instrumentation and innovative songs.

Not much of a chart follower, I fuond Kate Nash's album a real ray of sunshine.
Pop with Pianos is what it is and rightly so.

Each track is full of cute melodies and even cuter lyrics from the london girl that will have teenage girls across the country taking music lessons a lot more seriously.

Some tracks daudle and have silly lyrics, but ultimately this is a breezy, happy album that should keep you smiling

Made of Bricks - Kate Nash
Review created: 25/02/08

Im only 59 years old, I can remember Arthea Franklin, Carol King, Joni Mitchell, Melanie and Christine Perfect and have a cupboard full of that sort of Vinyl.

Without a piano and a sore throat Kate would be lovely just to look at a concert on stage under the lights in those full skirted dresses.

The Who perhaps captured my generation with "My Generation" and today Kate has mastered her own language of todays youth with all that lovely poetic phrasing to match Roger Daltrys stammer. This LP is an instant life experience communication masterpeice.

Never a great fan of foul langage in songs, Dickhead is outstanding in conveying how abnoctious some Dickheads really are to the people around them. There will now be less Dickheads

Songs like Mouthwash and Mariella are brilliant compositions the latter with incredibley delivered and difflecult to get out lyrics and promise so much for the future. After the official last track 12 Merry Happy there is a lovely winding down bonus song.

Please Kate if you could just write one more new song about proportional representation you could transform the whole country.

email me soon as the next album is out.

  Sweet singsong singalong
Review created: 30/01/08

Overall this is a great album, although mixed, from cheeky lyricist Kate Nash.

You'll remember Foundations of course, but there are some other cracking songs on here with a hefty dollop of humour too. From the thought provoking 'Mariella' to the modern Romeo & Juliet in 'Birds' this is a really good album.

Shame about the expletives as my children would definitely love this otherwise. You can do better than that Kate Nash!

  Made of Lemons

There are a couple of knockout singles on the album - Foundation, Mouthwash and Pumpkin Soup - the remainder of the album is pretty good too. I particularly like Mariella. She has been described as Mini-Allen and it seems pretty fitting. Sweet songs delivered in a sing song London accent - that occasionally veres into the Mockney or Dick Van Dyke school - she seems to pronounce the T on the ends of the words.

Don't be put off by any bad reviews, try for yourself!
Review created: 23/01/08

I eventually brought this album despite nearly being put off by the negative reviews.

It was delivered yesterday and its amazing.

I'm 34 so way over the albums 'target' audience and love it!

It may be 'aimed' at teenagers but to overlook it because of that would be a grave mistake.

I brought this and Lily Allens album at the same time and they have huge differences,I must say I prefer this one of the two.

The best track is 'the nicest thing'- a ballad of unrequited love that is so easy to relate to, it sounds very 'Kate Bush' (instrumentally not lyrically/vocally) particularly near the end, reminds me very much of 'Love and Anger' and is very haunting....'mouthwash,'birds' and 'mariella' are the other high points.

This is a great album full of a variety of emotions, it fun, quirky, comic in many places, sassy but underneath all that it has a lot of undertones to resentment, disappointment and apathy.

Only wish I'd got it sooner rather than deliberating.

Awesome - the sound of 2007
Review created: 22/01/08

I bought this album on the back of the debut single, Caroline's a Victim (which doesn't actually feature on the album) and I've not looked back. It's an excellent piece of POP, funny in places and vaguely disturbing in others (tales of skeleton friends).

Clever lyrics combined with catchy piano play make it a must have album in my opinion.

People have claimed Kate's a fake with her "mockney" accent, and that she's just copying Lily Allen.... I own both albums and they're as different as chalk and cheese in terms of musical style, both use observational lyrics - but what songwriter doesn't in some way, shape or form? Use of MySpace to promote yourself and build up a following before Album release is hardly a "new" idea and certainly isn't Lily's own idea!

All in all, an excellent album that I would recommend to anyone who likes good POP!

Good album with just a hint of Lilly Alans tounge in cheek to it.
Fun some and times challenging lirics but the tracks grow on you the more you listen.
Kate is bound to mature and become more populer and reach a broader audiance

  Yaaaaawn

Kate Nash may WISH she was Lily Allen, but I'm sorry - she is definitely NOT.

All this album is, is a blatant rip-off of the amazing Miss Allen's style and sophistication, pulled off with less than a millionth of her skill.

Go back to your day job, Kate - Lily will always be the best!
