I absolutely love this movie. It's the best cartoon ever, but in live-action - it's funny, madcap, enthralling, romantic, exciting and all the rest. It's the perfect movie for children, but anyone would enjoy it. I would whole-heartedly recommend this movie to anyone - Charles "Chuck" Russell did a great job, redeeming himself for Nightmare on Elm Street 3, and his special effects department and actors really made the film special.
Also, this is the first on screen appearance of Cameron Diaz, and Boys , you should buy this dvd just for this reason. A very, very , very hot Chick she is. Even though she confesses to wearing fake breasts in this movie. Either way, Still hot!
The problem is, though, that this DVD really doesn't do the brilliant film justice. I don't normally notice the sound quality in films - my ears aren't that great and I only have stereo speakers anyway, so I don't usually mind the sound in films that others condemn to the pits of hell. This dvd is an exception. For some reason, totally unknown to me, it goes quiet, loud, quiet, loud, regardless of the on-screen action. This is particularly annoying and noticeable during the otherwise brilliant dance numbers. Also the speech occasionally slips out of lip-sync. These problems aren't enough to really spoil your enjoyment of The Mask, but they are worth mentioning all the same.
Otherwise the disc is OK - extras include interview bites with all the important cast members (Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz, Max the Dog) and brief B-reels and making-of documentaries. There is also a trailer, cast profiles and a commentary by the director. Note: no alternative langauges or subtitles.

The Mask and Jim Carrey's Forgotten Films

The comic book origins of the Mask may put some people off this film. Many "adults" think that comics are for children but the actual Mask from the comics was a homicidal maniac. Fortunately, they used the director from one of the sequels to Nightmare on Elm Street to produce this cartoon comedy!
The facial comedy stylings of Jim Carrey are not compromised by the grotesque, green mask he dons but they actually enhance it. Anthoer of the undiscovered talents of Carrey is his singing. While we all hold our sides during "Cuban Pete", we can't help but admire Carrey's vocal talents. It is unfortunate that he has rarely the oppurtunity to exercise them.
This film is truly a masterpice in both acting and directing and includes the film début pf Cameron Diaz. The dreadful sequel (not including Jim Carrey) has turned many of the Mask but please do not despise this low-budget film which has all the charm and comedy its predessor lacks.

Jim Carrey's performance in this is great. His flexibility, his humour, his timing, his facial expressions, all add to the persona of "The Mask". The story is based around a mild mannered bank clerk who finds an old mask. When this mask is worn, the person's hidden qualities and desires come to the fore - in Stanley's case a green masked figure, totally over the top, a real exhibitionist who gets himself in and out of trouble. Even though his masked character is quite mean, you have to like him. The obligatory romance eventuates, with Cameron Diaz, but the mild mannered clerk triumphs in the end. With your baddies, cops, masked figure this movie made me and my children laugh - which is what a good movie is all about!

This dvd is a classic! Fantastic performance from Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz! The follow up i hear was not worth watching, and from what ive seen of it seems very poor. I wish they had made a decent sequal, or non at all, but hey! Would recommend this dvd to anyone as an essential part of any dvd collection!

got to me in great tiem best ebay seller i come across except for a few that are great :D been ripped of by someone and only got 4 pound back out of the 15 to 16 odd pound so dont shop on here muc anymore so be careful everyone some are honest others arent so always checks feed back first and read everything about the product that the seller is describing

the maskthought it was a brilliant film i had it on video and bought it on dvd jim carrey at his best i think a lonely bank worker who lives with his dog has a new lease of life when he finds this old wooden mask, and from there, there is non stop action. very funny and well worth watching

I absolutely love this movie and have watched it many times on the television but was unable to find a copy on DVD in the shops. So when I found a copy on here for a brilliant price I immediately bought it. It is a fantastic movie with a few elements from the comics (like the shaping of a balloon into a tommy gun scene) but is not as violent- the violence in this movie is mild for all ages to enjoy and the makers successfully made the violent elements funny. Jim Carrey is fantastic as Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask - he becomes as close to a cartoon character as it can possibly be- and so are all the other cast members (Richard Jeni as Charlie, Cameron Diaz as Tina Carlyle) Every single moment from beginning to end is fabulous and i reccommend to all ebayers. I give this movie 10/10 :)

Crazy Carrey!mad, funny film! Carrey is at his slickest. It was for my Son who is a big Carrey fan and he ranks it up there as one of his best. I can give it no higher accolade than that. 9/10
