You either love him or you hate him !!!! I am a fan and have enjoyed most of hugh Grants films. This is no exception. It is full of great entertainment.

This film is a feel good movie and will ensure you have a smile on your face throughout.

It is not just a chick flick but can be enjoyed by both.

  A great feel-good entertaining film

A great feel-good entertaining film:

Cynics may be sick, romantics will feel their spirits soar. Richard Curtis returns.

The writer responsible for the biggest British hits of the last ten years - Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary - directs this vibrant romantic comedy, blending ambition with good sense by filling the profuse parts of his multi-storied script with excellent, experienced actors, and rising young stars.

Ten stories intertwine, loosely connected by friends of friends, family and next-door-neighbours. There's the new, bachelor prime minister (Hugh Grant) falling for the teagirl (Martine McCutcheon); his sister (Emma Thompson) suspecting her husband (Alan Rickman) may stray; her mate (Liam Neeson) grieving over his wife's death; his stepson (Thomas Sangster) longing for a girl from school...

The writer (Colin Firth) heartbroken in France; his newlywed friends (Chiwetel Ejiofor and Keira Knightley) whose best man (Andrew Lincoln) acts oddly; their Yank friend (Laura Linney) who wants a beau in Blighty; the sex-starved Brit (Kris Marshall) heading to the sexed-up United States; his best mate's buddy (Martin Freeman) falling for a pornstar stand-in.

And bestriding it all, Bill Nighy is brilliant as a washed-up Rod Stewart-alike rock singer, whose coarse cover of the Four Weddings... theme song is climbing the charts towards a seasonal number one: "Christmas," he sings, "is all around."

Inevitably, some strands are almost forgotten and actors underused. A soft focus Short Cuts, the movie lacks the layered fluency of Robert Altman's work - or the hard edge. But while there's enough treacle to turn a bee diabetic, it is not without raw emotional moments - with Thompson outstanding in a tear-duct tingling scene.

You can almost see Curtis pressing the emotional buttons, but he does it so well you won't care. Warm, bittersweet and hilarious, this is lovely, actually. Prepare to be smitten.

I can't believe that I am the first person to write a review for this film, I love it!! Boasting a great ensemble cast (Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompsen, Kiera Knightley to name but a few), this is a must for anyone with an ounce of romance in them! Both funny (mostly down to the brilliant Bill Nighy) and touching (Andrew Lincoln's flashcard scene on Keira Knightley's doorstep is one scene that particulary moved me), Love Actually is a real heart-string tugger! I saw this film with my husband at the cinema and being a soppy thing anyway, it took my breath away! As soon as it came to DVD, I was in my local Tesco, cash in hand!! Great for Christmas viewing as it is set around this time of year.

  Not great but not bad..........actually

Love Actually is a mixed bag set in that mythical London that only seems to exist in the imagination of Richard Curtis. As a director, Curtis gets poor performances out of the better actors (Neeson and Rickman in particular) and passable ones from the really bad ones (Keira Knightley, Martin Freeman, Sienna Guillory) but is generally best when leaving the others to do their regular schtick (Hugh Grant playing the world's least convincing British Prime Minister, Emma Thompson in a virtual reprise of her Tall Guy character and Colin Firth doing his usual constipated look routine). With such a large ensemble many get lost en route and too many of the stories go nowhere, but it does get there in the end despite your resistance. Some of the surprisingly strong deleted scenes on the DVD do hint at a much more ambitious film, and there is one remarkably effective moment with a shattered Thompson listening to a Joni Mitchell song that holds the moment longer than you'd think he'd dare, but in the end the temptation to give in to feelgood corn wins over, even if it is at the cost of the film's already very limited supply of credibility. But that kid does look like he should be in The Omen or Village of the Damned - every time I see him I keep on expecting him to say "You are thinking of a brick wall."

THIS IS A ALL TIME GREAT DVD. A GREAT SCRIPT AND A STORY LINE WHICH MAKES ONE WISH FOR TIMES LIKE THIS TO RETURN. FANTASY I KNOW, BUT WHEN WATCHED TWO OR THREE TIMES A YEAR TENDS TO MAKE YOU WISH FOR THE WORLD TO LISTEN TO THE SCRIPT AND BELIEVE THERE IS MORE GOOD AROUND THAN THERE ACTUALLY IS. GOOD ACTING ALL ROUND.

Wonderfully romantic. The tinge of sadness as well as the humour makes it a must have film which one can watch more than once.

Real sweetie 'feel good' film with lots stars and cameo appearances. Watch it at Christmas! Bill nighy plays the same bungling toff he always plays (as does Hugh Grant). But it is mega soppy-if you like that kinda thing!

I absolutely adore this film, one of my favourites ever. It has got something to make you laugh, make you cry, make you want to hide your head under the covers and is truly heartwarming. A real festive fun movie and I would recommend that every one sees it at least once, if not the 17000 times I have seen it!

I do really actually love "Love Actually". Definently one to save for Christmas though, and perhaps not to be saved for your macho tough sons, brothers and husbands. Gives me the same warm fuzzey feeling at the end that all the films with Hugh Grant in do! Recommended film, Enjoy!

This is my desert island movie - if I could only ever watch one film, it would be this one. It's funny, it's romantic, it's sad, it's brilliant. If you haven't seen it - why not? Something for everyone and even when you've watched it.....watch the directors cut for an even funnier version

This highly praised movie proved to be a complete bore to me and I was glad when it was over! Martin McClutcheon is awful in this. The songs are very unprofessional. Even one of my favorite actors, Hugh Grant, can't save this flick. Don't bother.

  Love Actually is Brilliant Actually
Review created: 12/10/09

I am a man - I say this not because I doubt my own sexuality, but in the context of this review I feel it's important to mention the fact. Normally I steer clear of lovey-dovey, so-called 'RomComs', preferring more serious storylines and 'real' acting. However, Love Actually is no ordinary RomCom.

I first saw it at the cinema and have watched it several times since. I recently bought it on DVD because it's a film I can watch over and over and never get tired of. Love Actually combines, brilliant individual performances with beautiful direction, production and a great script. It delivers humour, poignancy, unrequieted love, sadness and many other emotions and is ultimately totally uplifting. A real winner from Richard Curtis - 10 out of 10!!

  Love Actually DVD
Review created: 05/10/09

What a brilliant film, how could you not want this in your collection? Male or female you would have to be a hard hearted person not to be touched in some way by this film.

Laugh, cry, sympathise, be compassionate, show empathy - you just must! Wish you could live your dreams like certain characters or be very glad that you don't have to live the lives of some of the others.

So many characters I want to invite home and a few I would like to shut the door on! One guy in particular - he's mine - well okay, in my dreams! Even without him in it, it would still be a truly brilliant film. I have done a mini-survey and most men will admit to having a few tears along with the laugh out loud moments.
