It pains me every time I hear someone play 'Can't Catch Tomorrow' or virtually any other song from Lostprohpet's newest album. Why? Because Start Something is just so much better.
The album starts with the intense 'We Still Kill The Old Way', the best song on the album. It cruises through the likes of Papa Roach and Alien Ant Farm and other similar bands in terms of the power of the song, and yet thanks to the group's love of post production DJ work, the mix is also interesting, and sets up the rest of the album for a great start.
After riding through the highs of the next five songs, including the amazing single 'Last Train Home', there is a batch of somewhat less intense songs. Personally, I skip tracks 6-8 and jump straight to 9, where Start Something hammers out an epic intro. Normally this sort of jump would lower my rating, but I'm aware that I'm probably alone in finding these songs dull; either way, a few duds on an album of this quality are nothing to worry about.
'We Are Godzilla You Are Japan' comes in clinching the last moments of class out of the heavier songs, before 'Sway' rolls out slowly to nothingness. The only downfall here is the change in the whirrr of your CD player as it all disappears. And it was worth it. This album misses out on the odd song endings of The Fake Sound Of Progress, and arrived before the band sold out to radio rock, and is one of the must have albums of recent times.
Anyone who's seen any of my other reviews knows that me giving a 5* rating is rare. However, Start Something truly deserves it.
