The second installment of the Welsh band has the band following a more catchy, upbeat album from the first as they enter the mainstream and head to the top and show why they are arguably one of the best bands in Great Brittain. This is a great album that appeals to the world of rock and metal, yet also easy listening for the pop world as several songs on it got to number 1 in the charts. A must own CD.

An album they should have built on

lostprophets (spelt right here) decided to commercialise in 2006 when Liberation Transmission was released. Now on the eve of their 4th album release, they say they are reverting back to a "more dark apocalyptic" sound. This is because they made a mistake! Don't please everyone, please your old fans. Perasonally i am a MASSIVE lostprophets fan and i think all their stuff is great, even the cover of Justin Timberlake's cry me a river, and i have got to say, this alum is the BEST.

lostprophets at their best.

This album contains crunching anthems and sweet riff to bring thousands alive in areanas such as NIA and MEN on this years tour.

Listen to this:
Last train home
Burn Burn
Start something
We are Godzilla, You are Japan

  A Good Album,
Review created: 27/09/08

Having first brought this album back when it was first released amoung a haul of publicity, clouded my judgement and I was quick to write it off as a cheap piece of pop garbage. A soon sold the album and deined all knowledge of buying it.

However by chance a friend decided to play Last Train Home on a stereo system at work, I wondered maybe I had judged this album a bit too quickly. Enter Ebay.co.uk.

So a good 5 years after I first listened to this album I burn the CD, shove it on my Ipod and listen to it once again. The album kicks off with "We Still Kill the Old Way" quickly moves through some fast paced chorus' pretty decent riffs and you soon find yourself emerged in this album. And so I find myself rather enjoying it and I can appreciate this album for what it is, I can't understand why I didn't get this album first time however now, all I can say is I love it. If I HAD to compare it to other bands I would find myself pointing you in the direction of Bowling For Soup.

Some stand out tracks for me are; "Burn, Burn", "Last Train Home", "Last Summer", "Start Something" and "We Are Gozilla...".

The album certainly centres around a fast paced theme lead by the guitars, the bass is somewhat understated, the vocals however are the stand-out for me, the guy screaming in the background really is quite a good addition to the leadsinger who has a clean crisp voice which stand out well against the awesome riffs.

I do still find the Lyrics rather immature and it is on this that some of the songs come undone and for this reason I have taken a star away. That being said this is a good, very much a punk-rocky, album. Which I would recommend to anyone , who enoys a good rock album.

It pains me every time I hear someone play 'Can't Catch Tomorrow' or virtually any other song from Lostprohpet's newest album. Why? Because Start Something is just so much better.

The album starts with the intense 'We Still Kill The Old Way', the best song on the album. It cruises through the likes of Papa Roach and Alien Ant Farm and other similar bands in terms of the power of the song, and yet thanks to the group's love of post production DJ work, the mix is also interesting, and sets up the rest of the album for a great start.
After riding through the highs of the next five songs, including the amazing single 'Last Train Home', there is a batch of somewhat less intense songs. Personally, I skip tracks 6-8 and jump straight to 9, where Start Something hammers out an epic intro. Normally this sort of jump would lower my rating, but I'm aware that I'm probably alone in finding these songs dull; either way, a few duds on an album of this quality are nothing to worry about.
'We Are Godzilla You Are Japan' comes in clinching the last moments of class out of the heavier songs, before 'Sway' rolls out slowly to nothingness. The only downfall here is the change in the whirrr of your CD player as it all disappears. And it was worth it. This album misses out on the odd song endings of The Fake Sound Of Progress, and arrived before the band sold out to radio rock, and is one of the must have albums of recent times.

Anyone who's seen any of my other reviews knows that me giving a 5* rating is rare. However, Start Something truly deserves it.

  Lost prophets - start something
Review created: 18/02/08

This CD is fantastic. It is a perfect mix of rock and almost pop rock. It is a brilliant CD which is very easy to sing along to. Although the Lost Prophets had some big singles out of this CD it was not because they wrote the songs to fit what the public wanted. It was because they wrote some great songs that just reached so many people on so many levels. This CD is a real must for anyone who likes slightly alternative music. Excellent.
