Lost In Space (DVD 1999)

BEING A FAN OF THE CULT SIXTIES TV SERIES I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS UPGRADE, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE ALL STAR CAST. THE STORY OF THE ROBINSON FAMILY LEAVING A WAR RAVAGED EARTH WITH AN EVIL STOWAWAY IS A BIT SLOW TO GET GOING AND TO BE FAIR THIS IS BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS THEIR 'INTRODUCTION' SEGMENT TO TRY AND DEVELOP THE CHARACTERS. GIVEN THAT THE ROBOT AND GARY OLDMANS STOWAWAY COMPLETELY STEAL THE FILM IN EVERY SCENE THAT THEY APPEAR IN, THE BEGINNING SEEMS WASTED. THE EFFECTS ARE PRETTY GOOD AND OVERALL I QUITE ENJOYED THE RIDE - BUT DON'T EXPECT STAR WARS OR A SEQUEL !

The only thing watchable in this movie, aside from Gary Oldman's character, is
the special effects. They scream of CGI, naturally, but are amazing to say the least. The extras included in the DVD provide several insights into the making-off and are a plus, but...

The Robinsons are now a dysfunctional family, spending half their time airing
the kinds of household problems - dad's too preoccupied, son feels neglected, younger daughter wants no part of this particular family outing.William Hurt and Mimi Rogers do their best with their shakily written roles.

Anyway, special effects can never save a movie if the story or characters don't hold up. It could have been done better, of course, but as is, it's just another sci-fi action movie with plenty of eye-candy.

Love this film. Abit of a 'one off' but great characters and amazing special effects. Sci - Fi movie cabinet must.

Fantastic remake of a great sci-fi classic. Purchased this movie because it makes a good addition to my collection and was impressed with seller's prompt delivery.

Although the high tech effects take away some of the charm from the original TV series this is a very watchable film. Ideal sci-fi film for family viewing with some nice periods of action. Certainly not the best film ever but good viewing. especially if it can be purchased at a low price.

Ok, to be honest I bought the DVD because I saw a trailer and it had the little kid from Malcom in the Middle in it, and I just love the little Jack Johnson. And ever since "Kiss of the Spiderwoman" I have been following William Hurt, he is just such a class actor, in in my opinion vastly underrated.
Put that together with the arch evil Garry Oldman, I thought you cant go wrong!!
Sometimes you just have to forgive the writers for the corny oneliners poor old Matt LeBlanc has to deliver, I am sure he was cringing inside and had to keep his paycheck in front of his eyes...
But on the whole, I thoroughly enjoyed the mayhem, and glad to have bought it. Not too heavy on the violence, so you can watch it with the kids, but stil keeping the surprises comming and I could have easily watched another hour of it....

Lost In Space the series was more about the idea of a family lost in space.The movie is more about the special effects,nethertheless its a good solid family film that can be watched over and over again.

good film but slow at times, i expected a much more action packed film , but still not bad, great affects and something you wouldnt mind seeing again 8/10

I love sci-fi movies but whats great about this movie is its special effects, it just blows you away. I would recommend this movie to anyone, it makes a fantastic family movie and it goes well with popcorn. The downside to the DVD is that it has no director or cast commentary, because i like to know how the actor's themselves made the movie that you see on the screen in front of you.

Of course I knew what I was buying when I bid for this dvd. Price is all important especially with so many stored selling new dvds for so little now, but this one was a good price and including p&p still cheaper than stores. The packing was also good along with the postage costs, another bonus as to many people try to ramp up the postage costs, a sly move I think! but congrats to the seller and I obtained a great dvd!

have got the film on video, but i wanred to get the dvd of the lost in space. This has lots of extra footage, runs for 130 mins and is a very good buy.
