The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (DVD 2004)

What could have been a tacky Americanised betrayal of British literature instead manifested into a cinematic encapsulation of everything that made ‘The Lord of The Rings’ a true masterpiece.

In modern times we have started to decay as we become trapped in the pollution and apathy of the city life. Nature is gradually stripped away; shrink wrapped in the plastic of materialism, and diluted with the felling of trees and the building of a ‘safe’ environment in concrete prosthesis.

The Lord of the Rings allows the modern audience to catch a glimpse of the long forgotten value of life, humbleness of existence and the universal humanity that bonds us together in our struggle against a harsh world. The quest for the ring is as much a display of human resilience as it is an exciting story of good vs. evil. The moral issues and the philosophical debates that this film represents are layered together in a web of meaning, sight and sound that merges into something spectacular.

Peter Jackson has done an incredible job to prevent this film from turning into some nausea inducing ‘Zena Warrior Princess’ mockery of history. Instead he chose to respect history, employing teams of hundreds of armourers from around the world and spending years creating arms and armour which remain historical as well as fantastical, just as Tolkien intended. This is a theme that remains throughout the film; commitment to the books' on an almost obsessive level, devouring the viewer’s attention as the intricate plot unfolds.

In summary I'd say it’s a decent film, none of the actors have American accents which is a good thing. I don't mean to be racist or anything, but honestly, American accents and suits of armour are like fish and chocolate; they both stink and are unconnected, both historically as well as in terms of taste.

In answer to the question posed by ebays lovely review system, I bought it because it was only a tenner for the three films and I fancied a treat :)

The rating of this trilogy cannot in any way be underestimated. I will not rant on for ages and ages but only have to say that it is worth every penny spent. superb CG but sometimes there's a long while before much happens - whatever its just really worth the money if ya can buy it

i really like all the films! i had only seen the first one so i brought the set so i could watch all of them. they really are great films!

Great films, brilliant adaptation of the books. Each film has you hooked wanting to watch the next film directly after one.

i bought this game for my grandson as he is an avied fan .the game was genuine and in first class condition a credit to ebay lets hope there are more genuine traders and stamp out the rouges.

Classics of the future, all three are brilliant films keeping true to the books. I already have them on video but wanted DVD versions to continue watching over and over again.

There has been a mistake with some of the disks in the Lord of the Rings Extended Boxsets. The error is usually the disc that has the 2nd part of the Return of the King movie. In my boxset it looked correct (the label was in English and stated it was the 2nd part of the Return of the King) but when the disk was played it was German special bonus content regarding the making of the Lord of the Rings. I was bought this as a present from Virgin store in Bristol for Xmas 2007 and only discovered the wrong disc a few months ago. I contacted the store and the suppliers and the production companies and got NOWHERE with any of them. So, in short, please make sure to check and play EVERY disc to see that you have all the correct content. I know when The first of the Trilogy of Lord Of The Rings Came Out at the cinema I went like some many others to watch it.I was spell bound by the effects and the acting from the beginning to the end.It was one of the best films that I had ever seen.I thought it could not get any better when the second one was then released;but I was wrong.It was Brilliant and again the special effects were Brilliant.It was a sad day when the final one was released as you knew that the end was The End.Following this they brought out this DVD Collection.A must for any fan of the films.To be able to watch the Trilogy in the comfort of your own home;when ever you wish must be heaven to any fan.That is why I purchased this Box Set.I would say It Is A Must for any fan of Lord Of The Rings even if they are now showing the films on T.V. Who cares about that because at the end of the day you can re-run,skip etc the Dvd when ever you want.A Must for Any Fan Of Lord Of The Rings.

This is my favourite set of movies by far, I had borrowed this set from a mate when I was working away, and living in my caravan, took me about 3 days to watch the set, but I was gripped by the story, the sound, effects etc. I really was sorry when the filmed ended. I have just bought this movie to keep as a classic.

i was planning to buy this from long time. but because of its price, i was going back a bit. i saw the bid in ebay, i communicated with seller who was really a kind one. i got it for cheaper price and its worth it and he was a great ebayer to do the business with. i want ebay to give credits to some of the sellers who they are worth it.

its a great box of films to own!! i have seen the films before and owned them before but they got stolen in a recent house theft! i have only just bought these again!

It is a must see (more than once) movie. I Very much liked it. I beleive it really deserved the Oscars.

Excellent special effects, wonderful scenery, amazing battle scenes. Very long though. The trilogy is over 9 hours of viewing time!

you can find some great prices here on ebay even brandnew. the movies ofcourse are great, with bonuses dvds and all.

It was a very well produced film. The special effects were stunning as well as the scenery and acting. I am changing my videos to dvd and the difference in quality is amazing.
