The Lord Of The Rings - The Return Of The King (DVD 2004)

Amazing film! one of the best i've ever seen! The fight scenes draw your breath away and theres more than one major battle for a change.

One either loves the fantasy of Tolkien or is immune. As an addict, I was initially hesitant because I felt that no film could equal my imagination. If there is a collective unconscious, Peter Jackson and I were in the same part, because his creation of the Tolkien story is almost exactly as I visualised it. The special effects are incredible, especially the creation of Gollum who becomes completely believable as an entity (Andy Sirkis should have at least been nominated for a Oscar) and this third part of the saga provides a totally satisfactory ending to the saga. A wonderful end to a wonderful trilogy.

Great film. was blown away upon first watching it. Watched several times since. There was not one hitch, not one problem i could of pointed out. All actors played there part well and realisticly. A Must watch to everyone! You would not be dissapointed!

Simply can't say anything bad about the films if you have not seen them I would recommend them some subtle differences from the book but fits with the films very well

Majestic, moving and immense, The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King is about as awesome as cinema gets. Sure, there are some problems, but it's hard to imagine a more assured adaptation of the final volume of JRR Tolkien's fantasy masterwork. Combining the 'ooh' factor of Fellowship with the zippy action of Towers, Peter Jackson's monster epic sees Frodo (Elijah Wood) and friends continue their quest to destroy the all-powerful One Ring, and free Middle-earth of evil.

It's an astonishing piece of storytelling, sacrificing little of the novel, as it nimbly switches between several story strands without becoming confusing or dull (despite being a bum-numbing 201 minutes).

The first film's Fellowship is still split. Pint-sized Ring-bearers Frodo and Sam (Sean Astin) are being led by the grisly Gollum (Andy Serkis) into the dark heart of Mordor; Gandalf (Ian McKellen) needs to deal with the off-his-chump Steward of Gondor (John Noble); while the kingdom's rightful king, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), must walk the Paths Of The Dead (oooh!) and muster an unearthly army.

And there's fighting. Lots of fighting. Even after Towers' spectacular scrap at Helms Deep, the battle for Minas Tirith is astonishing. Dragon-like nasties join with thousands of foul-faced orcs and troll-powered catapults to attack the city. The arrival of Mûmakil (huge, multi-tusked, elephant-type beasties), meanwhile, gives lithe elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom) an audience-pleasing spot of shooting'n'surfing.

Gimli the dwarf (John Rhys-Davies) provides comic relief ("Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?") and Astin is excellent again. Serkis is Oscar worthy.

Inevitably, some elements are less effective. While showing impressive steel as the Ring inflicts its power upon him, Wood is all moist, soft-focus simpering elsewhere. The super-eeevil Eye Of Sauron resembles an angry lighthouse. And there are about 674 endings, as Jackson tries to include everything from the book's rather leisurely conclusion.

But these issues evaporate given that his achievement is so stunning elsewhere. As the tagline proclaims, "the journey ends". But you'll want to take it again and again. And if your eyes leak along the way... well, as Gandalf says, "Not all tears are an evil."

What can I say- if you buy one you have to buy all three-an absolute essential for your dvd collection, along with Saving Private Ryan, Braveheart etc. Films which you WILL watch over an over again when you know what's going to happen and can even remember every word of the dialogue-like all the Monty Python series this is an important historical event.

The Return Of The King is a fitting finale to The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. I'd rate it as the best of the three movies (and the other two are excellent anyway), but this one has some stupendous battle scenes. With plenty of action, great scenery and set pieces, this is not to be missed.

This purchase completed my set of the 'Ring' DVDs. I paid a great price for a great film! love the film, love all the charters the only thing bad about it is that it is just to long but did enjoy every bit of it :)

i like this dvd becuase it is filled with adventure and action and last fro around 3 hours which i love about it a long good movie i bough it becuase i only have the first and to be honest it it the worst out of them all

I absolutley love this film and I think its easily one of the best films ever made, everything about the film is top notch, a must buy.

Fabulous fantasy film. Went to see this film at the pics, it was a long film, over 3 hours, so had to get it on dvd, to watch it over again and to pause now and then.
The filming is amazing, fab destinations, the acting is awesome, the mixture of special effects and acting is believable. Quite scarey in parts, the fighting scenes are brutal and a lot of sweaty palm moments! Loved the costumes and all the actors seem to fit their parts perfectly. A great film to watch and keep, this dvd will not be resold!!

my family loves this film, and it was the only one we needed to have the full set of lord of the rings, which is brilliant, cinematography is stunning, locations, were awesome, actors werent bad either, only joking, a definate must for dvd collection.

this is the last in the trilogy but i do think is the best, full of none stop action, plus you find out the fate of the 'one ring'

It was good!I mean real good. So good u cant imagine. I mean blimey it was ruddy good. It had vigo mortensonsonsenson (something like that) and he sounded nearly english and as for fight scenes bloody exciting stuff!

The last in the title series, and i was so sorry that it ended. But all brilliant films most end. One for the collection.
