The Lives Of Others (DVD)

This is a superb film about a real and increasingly important topic - the surveillance of the individual by the state. It won the Oscar for best foreign film but could easily have won best film had it been entered for this category. A profound and moving story which never descends into mawkish sentiment or grand heroics but shows that humanity can - at a cost - win out over even the most ingrained of ideologies. Hollywood blockbusters with their gazillion dollar budgets and actors who think they're more important than the film or the message the film is trying to portray - you have a lot to learn from the simplistic beauty and raw emotion in this film. watch this....you won't regret it.
