Lisa Gerrard is excellent here, just as she was in DCD.

The Mirror Pool has some beautifully haunting sounds, especially the first track. The soloist here, Lisa Gerrard went on to do many different soundtracks for various films. I have bought them, too; some from eBay. She is originally from Australia with Irish origins and was a member of the Dead Can Dance (DCD) duo that split up a while ago. DCD are still a favourite of mine. I'd just like to mention as a side-note here that the other member of DCD was the very able and talented Brendan Perry, who also has Irish origins. He was brilliant at arranging old style music into original modern sounding gothic, classical, folk, and medieval type pieces. But his vocal style is not always to my liking, although his voice is generally good. I still like some of his vocal tracks, but not as much as Gerrard's. Perry's solo album (Eye of the Hunter) was clever and had well arranged music. But Gerrard's solo album, The Mirror Pool, is a more unusual and interesting work that grows on you more and I ended up listening to it more than I did Perry's solo work, although both artists are equally talented in their own way.
This album has a more modern classical sound to it and it has some original sounds and rythmns.
