This is a fantastic album. I was into metal when I was a kid but slowly swayed towards trance. This album brought back the rocker in me with its hyper riffs and amazing lyrics. All I can say is, if you haven't got this album, you really are missing out!

The last review was terrible, but also unfair
this album was the first they released (not including the EP) and like most first albums it wasnt expected to be a hit, i personally LOVE this album and think of it as one of the most defining albums ever made
one of the only nu metal bands i like, this is a great band, a great album and a MUST HAVE for all fans

I never really listened to this sort of music before. But after hearing and buying the Jay z Linkin park collistion course album i decided to, and i dont regreat it!
I love mostly all the songs, i think because some have a hint of pop in them, and even the ones that dont, i still love.
this album has encouraged me to listen to more rock, and of course purchase more linkin park albums!

With the two lead vocals put together in a metal band, add a dj and some heavily rap filled lyrics and metal tunes and you have a mix that makes this band an amazing band that I have listened to so many times on this album, it has catchy and really good vocals with a feel of needing to sing along too (which I do on a regular basis, even when not listening to it) This is what happens when rock/metal meet rap and it is deffinately one of the top 100 albums of my generation in my eyes, a must own CD.

I absolutley love this album, it's one of a few albums I'll listen the whole way through without getting bored. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a huge Linkin Park fan at first I wasn't too sure about the band myself. I first got wind of Linkin Park after seeing the "One Step Closer" video, I thought it was amazing but I wasn't sure I would like the other songs on the album. But I bought it anyway and I'm glad I did. I, personally, could really relate to the songs and with the intelligent and well thought of lyrics and amazing mix of metal and rap with the unbelievable singing voice of Chester Bennington, hip hop and rhyme vocals taken on by the multi-talented Mike Shinoda, awesome DJ mixing from Mr. Hahn, Rob Bourdon taking it to the drums and Phoenix Farrell and Brad Delson showing everyone how it's done on bass and guitar. Hybrid Theory is an enjoyment to listen to from "Papercut" to "Pushing Me Away". Okay, now to give my views on the songs and their meanings. Please note that the views of the meanings of these songs by me are not necessarily of the views others or Linkin Park themselves. It's the way I see them and others might feel the same about the songs...
1) Papercut - 9/10: The first song on the album, this one takes a look at the paranoid side of the brain which I'm sure alot of us do feel from time to time.

2) One Step Closer - 10/10: For me, the best song on the album, I really like this one, it seems to talk about being hurt by someone. This was the song that got me into Linkin Park in the first place and has remained my favourite.

3) With You - 7/10: Not the best song on the album but good lyrics all the same. This one seems to be about being hurt by someone but still caring for that person no matter what.

4) Points Of Authority - 9/10: A song showing an angrier side of Linkin Park, being hurt by someone and kinda feel like you've been used. Great track!

5) Crawling - 9/10: Great song. It talks about being really uncomfortable in a certian situation and feeling totally insecure. One of the songs where Chester holds the notes for a long time and really well.

6) Runaway - 8/10: This song seems to reflect on not being understood, getting so ticked off with it all and just wanting to be left alone.

7) By Myself - 8/10: A song which shows alone someone can feel (obviously by looking at name of the track) and not being able to be yourself with the people around you.

8) In The End - 10/10: I think anyone who's ever listened to the album likes this song. Well, people I know anyway. But it really is a good song. Chester and Mike's voices go with the song beautifully. I guess this one talks about really trusting and caring for someone but that person never fully understood you.

9) A Place For My Head - 9/10: A song which says that you really cared for someone and tried to be there for them but then they just threw it back in your face and in the end you just want to take a break from it all.

10) Forgotten - 9/10: I really can't think of a meaning for this song but it's great nonetheless. The lyrics go really well with the music.

11) Cure For The Itch - 7/10: This is Mr. Hahn showing off his great DJ skills.

12) Pushing Me Away - 9/10: The final song on the album and really enjoyable. This talks about doing anything to just be able to be with someone but that person is alway...well...pushing you away.

Well, hope you find this review helpful and if you didn't...just buy the album anyway!

  theres one essential work
Review created: 08/05/07

As an earlier, fairly mean-spirited review has pointed out already, this is a nu-metal album; heavy riffs with pop hooks, all with a sleek, commercial sound. Say what you like about Linkin Park, but they're the last nu-metal band left standing. Papa Roach had to sell out ('Scars' anyone?) to gain success, KoRn and Limp Bizkit meet with a wall of indifference if they release an album, and just about any other nu-metal band has broken up or disappeared. However, they have descended into self-parody; more than three years since their second studio album, and everyone's still waiting.

No matter how many shoddy filler releases have followed this album - occasionally with some merit; usually just a stall for the next record - and no matter how little it sounds like a band playing together, Hybrid Theory is a well written, affecting pop album. It's short, sharp and no songs stretch over four minutes - truly, this is what pop music is like in the 21st Century.

While not credible in any sense, Linkin Park write good, three-minute pop songs, with simplistic lyrics that certainly speak to teenagers - hence the 32 million sales. The best moments here have each clearly been worked on for months and dozens of takes; 'Papercut,' their opening gambit and one of the few songs they better live; 'One Step Closer,' their single defining song (note the lack of Mike Shinoda's rapping on that particular tune); 'Pushing Me Away,' the closing and most powerful track; or 'Crawling,' a cinematic epic that really broke them into the big time.

Whether their third album will beat this is unknown, but doubtful. Linkin Park are massive sellers, but really not necessary for your collection - outside of this punchy, brief album. Add it to your CD shelf and don't be ashamed to enjoy pop at its best.

After hearing Nevermind by Nirvana for the first time I was convinced nothing would ever come close. It took a while but this album came along. It isn't as good as Nevermind but only a handful of albums are.It is an awesome album. All I can remember from that year is listening to this album and Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish & The Hot Dog Flavoured Water. It's a very powerful album with great contrasting vocals & to top it off it's got one of the best songs of all time In The End.

I would recommend 'Hybrid Theory' to anyone, its the album that really got me into rock music and changed my perspective on genres together.

Prior to this album, 'rap' was a total no go area for me, but after listening to Mike Shinoda's mind-blowing vocals and lyrics, I started to see music in a different light and opened my mind to other artists and styles.

The album itself features the instant anthems "One Step Closer", "Crawling", "Paper cut" and "Points of Authority" and my personal favorite "A place for my Head".

This really is a truly great album, full of hard hitting songs and well thought out lyrics.

Hybrid Theory is one of my favorite albums of all time.

The album that turns your self beeing on AAA+++
Review created: 20/05/09

This album just does IT for me, it is entertaining from the beginning to the end. Lots of grate lyrics that make you think about the different truths of life. Very touching rhythm, it makes you move and want to burst out of your skin with emotions. I recommend this particular album as; definitely the best combination of tracks for Linkin Park (hybrid theory).
