Following the success of Contraband,VR's second album maintains the same energy and sneer but with a tighter and more melodic sound. Slash and co's musicianship remains mind-blowing while Scott Weiland's vocal lends a softer juxtaposition to the driving bassline and screeching guitars. Even though I prefer their fisrt album, I still think this album stands up there with the best of them. Scott Weiland makes for a vey charismatic frontman and Slash? He's a guitar god! I've been a fan of theirs for only a couple of years now after seeing them on Live 8 - and converted my Dad in the process. Whenever my mum listened to the first album, she always thought that it was the Foo Fighters - not a bad comparison as I like the Foos, too! Anyway, so if you like the Foo Fighters, or indeed the Revolver's first album, chances are you'll like this one too. Review ID: 10000000005772461 Was this review helpful? Report this review  Great, definatly a grower3 of 3 people found this review helpful. Well having first listened to it, I wasn't 100% impressed. Mainly due to what in my opinion, was that it was too heavily produced, in comparison to what contraband was. It isn't as rough, or jagged, very smooth in comparison. However having listened to it many times now, it is definatly an album that grows on you, the solos are there, and the catchy riffs + vocals are present (albeit his voice seems smoother again, layering? Perhaps.) One gripe I do have is that the vocals could be quiet if listening with poor quality headphones or speakers. However investing in some decent earphones would likely solve this But in any case I highly reccomend it, a fantastic follow up to contraband. A must for any Velvet Revolver fan, and any for new fans daring to the water. This would have got a five however it seems to be lacking something I can't quite seem to put my finger on.
