I have always been a big fan of Led Zep, from first hearing them back in 1970 when i was just 11 years old, like most people at the time i thought they were American, then it's nice to know that Britain can export a fantastic product all over the world.
This DVD, The Song Remains The Same is as close to seeing them live as you can get, it's brill, the closest i ever got to seeing them live was, Page & Plant in 1998, N E C.
Great band,great DVD.

The Song Remains the Same- Led Zeppelin.

I bought this dvd because I had'nt seen much live footage of Led Zep.
At first I thought the wrong disc had been put in the box as it opens with a bizarre sketch of a ganster shootout featuring Peter Grant (Led Zeps' manager) which doesn't seem to bear any relation to the rest of the dvd!
Thankfully things settle down to a more normal scenario with a short intro to the concert, with clips of each band member relaxing prior to the tour ahead ,before arriving in New York.
The concert then kicks off with 'Rock n roll' followed by 'Black Dog' then the pace slows with 'Since I've been lovin you' and 'No quarter'.
Many of the favourites are here, Whole lotta love- Dazed and confused- Heart breaker- Moby dick featuring Bonzo's infamous drum solo and the legendary Stairway to heaven. The live footage is interspersed with backstage clips which work quite well in between the music, but also with 'fantasy scenes' where various band members indulge in arty sketches which typify the indulgent late 60's/early 70's rock scene. Not really my thing, especially when you just want to watch the gig!
All in all though an enjoyable dvd to anyone who's a fan of Zep. Get the kids in bed, put on your best velvet loonpants, platform shoes, grab your air Gibson Les Paul and rock out! Just make sure you shut the curtains first.

Curate's egg - Good in parts!
Review created: 30/03/08

If you can sit through all the self-indulgent 60's/70's "fantasy sequences" you will be rewarded with some great footage of The Best Band In The World performing at the peak of their powers. Buy it, and buy the 'How The West Was Won' CD as well and you've got a great snapshot of life with Led Zeppelin.

Recommended, but you'll be using the 'Scene Selection' feature an awful lot if you're anything like me!

Could not afford, or even get tickets for thier show at O2, but this is the next best thing. Led Zeppelin in thier heyday, live at thier peak.

After a rather strange start to the dvd with thier manager doing a mafia gang type hit, the show started with them on stage playing the best of their songs

Rock n roll, Black dog, whole lotta love, stairway to heaven

What can you say about a dvd/album like this, one of the classic performances of all time its as good now as when i went to see it in the days before dvd`s (1975).in my opinion it has the best versions of no quarter, dazed and confused and stairway to heaven ever played both live and in studio and is certainly better than the trash plant turns out these days

  The Song Remains The Same
Review created: 07/06/07

There's nothing to dislike about Led Zeppelin or this DVD. I had this on video years ago and its as good now as it was when I first watched it. Excellent film, fantastic music from one of the early pioneers of rock music. The film starts with a gangster shoot out then moves to the band members receiving news of tour dates. Next they are walking off a plane to the concert. There's no classic intro before the concert. Just the opening drums of Rock and Roll, the lights come on and the band playing as only they can. I was 2 years old when this was recorded, shame I can't go back and be in the audience for real.

If you haven't heard of Led Zeppelin, get this DVD and give it a go. You won't be disappointed. Classic music from a classic band. Shame today's artists aren't as talented.

Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same (DVD 2000)
Review created: 07/05/07

Mature, hardened Led Zep fans will probably own this already but if you own it on video, get it on dvd because it just seems better. For younger people with an appreciation of good music, this is good for the experience alone. It will obviously come across as a bit dated i guess, but a classic music dvd all the same.

nice to watch again, although very trippy throughout with weird camera tricks and colours lights etc.wish they could just have filmed them on stage all the time without silly stories.well,i suppose it was the seventies!!

brilliant film, no one can fail to enjoy this, not only hugely popular in the 1970's but still a highly respected set of men in the music business and rightly so

It was very nice of the seller over in the U.K. to notify me of this tiny little detail, since my U.S. formatted DVD isn't compatible to European formats. I'm obliged to the seller in that regard. So I bought this DVD in the right format & have written my review of it, elsewhere.
