Album Notes Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Page (acoustic, electric & pedal steel guitar, background vocals); John Paul Jones (organ, bass, background vocals); John Bonham (drums, tympani, background vocals).Engineers include: George Chkiantz, Andrew Johns, Chris Huston.Recorded in London, England and New York, New York in 1969.From the first grinding notes of the famous vamp that introduces "Whole Lotta Love," LED ZEPPELIN II announces for all to hear that they are the definitive hard rock band of their generation. But before the listener can even settle into the groove, things takes a hard left turn into a spacey new rhythm, exotically flavored by Page's droning feedback and innovative use of a violin bow. By tune's end, Zeppelin has repeatedly toyed with the listener's expectations. This subversive quality distinguishes most of the arrangements on LED ZEPPELIN II, as in the soft/hard dynamic shifts of "What Is And What Should Never Be," the gospelish mood of "Thank You," the rocking vamps and funk rhythms of "Heartbreaker" and "Living Loving Maid," and the country music echoes of "Ramble On." And in their appropriations of source materials from Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, and Sonny Boy Williamson, Page and company continued to mine the rich vein of the blues. Reviews some say its not as good as Zeppelin I, because they're still trying to find thier feet, but come on!!! this album ahs some of their most popular hits. who doesnt tknow that fabulous riff from Whole Lotta Love. carrying on a 9 track style album, this one just kicks you in the nuts with the amount of brilliance it gives. the second track is my personal fave, due to its very cool chorus's, the lemon songs squeezes (sorry) the best out of zeppelin and it just keeps getting better. heartbreaker is also an amazing song and a very popular concert favourite. and who can forget moby dick; John Bonhams ace drums and Jimmy Page's magnificent riff, makes this the gem of side two. all in all this album is very cool, and worth getting. so buy it!!!!!!!! Report this review Review created: 01/05/08 by: 3 or 4 years ago I sold my vinyl collection that included all Led Zeppelin albums...this break has allowed me to re-assess what I want to listen to...Ash, Snow Patrol, Muse, The Music, White Stripes are all good but there's only one Led Zep...this originally was one of my first Led Zep albums and revisiting it 25 years (!) after originally buying it has been great. It's just the noise that they make..the beginning of Whole Lotta Love is just unmistakable...love it Review ID: 10000000006923315 Was this review helpful? Far superior to the remastered garbage. Remember this is my opinion, not yours, before purchasing any music, you should at least attempt to listen to the album in question or other material by the artist.
