Album Notes
Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Page (acoustic, electric, & pedal steel guitar, background vocals); John Paul Jones (organ, bass, background vocals); John Bonham (drums, tympani, background vocals).Additional personnel: Viram Jasani (tablas).Recorded at Olympic Studios, London, England in October 1968.Rising from the ashes of his old band the Yardbirds, session guitarist Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most powerful, influential, and enduring British bands to emerge in the '60s. Despite the presence of such classic thrash-o-ramas as "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown," what set Led Zeppelin apart was the depth and range of their music. Their sound was bathed in the blues, from rootsy covers of Willie Dixon's "You Shook Me" and "I Can't Quit You Baby," to the crunching rhythm changes of "Dazed And Confused." Few guitarists before or since possessed Page's sense of pacing and dynamics, as exemplified by the traditional acoustic folk elements framing the arena gestures on "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You," and the raga-flavored acoustic mystery of "Black Mountain Side." These elements would continue to evolve on subsequent albums, leading to some of Led Zeppelin's greatest moments.

Editorial Reviews
3 Stars - Good - ...the rites of passage, Marquee-style bluesbreaker album, recorded in just 30 hours (no record contract, no cash), it's peak 'Dazed And Confused,' wherein half-inch blues exploded into riffology...
Q (10/01/1994)

5 stars out of 5 - ...No Zep album sounds quite as gratifyingly raw or is as comprehensive in defining the band's intentions...

Rediscovery of Led Zep 40 years on
Review created: 08/10/08

40 years on from first discovery, the rediscovery of this album is hard to describe. You hear snatches of Led Zep music to accompany TV productions, but once you refill your head with the whole album it lasts there for weeks afterwards without needing to play it again. Of all my rock rediscoveries since 60's and 70's this is about as good as it gets.

Bought this album orginally on LP. Considering this is a sixties album and forty years old, this doesn't in anyway make this album sound dated. Led Zeppelin's debut album and for me the best album they made. This album has a good mixture of rock and blues that makes you want to hear it time and time again. If you are considering buying this album do so without hesitation, you will not be disappointed. If you are listening to it for the first time, I envy you. I had never heard of Led Zeppelin when I bought the LP, I just took the chance and how glad I was that I made that decision

  Led Zep 1st album
Review created: 08/05/08

When this album was first released on vinyl(1968), I was at school and I and the world had never heard of Led Zepplin. I was completely blown away by it. It is impossible to explain the impact it had because it is out of context on a personal and greater level. This was the FIRST LED ZEPPLIN ALBUM, nothing like it had ever existed. If you're a Zep freak, Rock fan, social historian or just curious, you really should check it out. How important was it to me? I carried my copy everywhere with me, never went anywhere without it that summer. Saw them play it at the Bath Blues Festival 1970.Bought a drum kit, Love Bonzo's playing, Huge influence on me still nearly 40 years later. Fantastic. I can't judge it objectively, don't want to.

Good old Led Zep - just don't let you down. Originally bought the LP years ago but sold collection and haven't really listened to them for quite a long time - this CD is just really good and money well spent re-acquiring it
