Learn To Paint - Watercolours Outdoors (DVD 2003)

The artist James Fletcher-Watson gives an excellent running commentary while he is painting. His voice in the DVD is clear and he is easily understood. I really liked the fact that the artist describes the pigments that he uses during the course of his painting activities. He also gives a number of insights on both techniques and colour usage. I also liked his 'en plein air' approach without any fussy or elaborate equipment. It is also nice that at times the video shows the puddles of colour mixes on the palette since this helps to assess the level of watery consistensy of the colour mixes that he uses in his painting.

I feel that the author manages to demystify watercolour painting, however I think that this DVD is more beneficial to those who already know the basics of watercolour (such as flat washes, wet-in-wet, dry brush techniques, glazes etc) since basic techniques are not described.

All in all, this DVD was worth it to buy and a good value for money for me because there are a lot of practical tips on colour mixes that are demonstrated by the artist himself in his paintings.
