Having been to the race in June for the past 6 years I felt it was time to watch the film. As a fan of the race I was expecting very much what I saw with the film, don't buy this if you're not into motor racing and you like Steve McQueen. It is quite a boring film and there is not alot of dialogue or depth to the story, it's basically about a guy in a car race.

Saying that though, great film. a must see for all Le Mans fans everywhere, failing that visit www.ketchupsack.com and get even more Le Mans info!

What i like about the film is that it takes you back to the 70's and the gorgeous cars that were racing at that time. I really loved the last 20 minutes as this is when the film really becomes thrilling. Due to one driver trying to overtake another to help his teammate. I just wish this part of the film had been longer. The camera work is impressive. The car crashes are scary to watch.

What i disliked, althought some may prefer this is that there is no atmospheric soundtrack to accompany the beautiful cars. Yes, you can listen to the sound of the engines but listening to the engines for the whole of the film is hard on the ears. A classical soundtrack would i believe, have lifted this film up from average to good. Also, i wish they had shown far more footage from inside the cars as this is exciting and interesting. The best way to describe this film is that it is raw, just like steve mcqueen. I will watch this film again for the cars, the crashes and knowing that the last 20 minutes is as exciting as a race could possibly get.

I bought it because I wanted to see why steve mcqueen put his own money into this film and what a domumentation of Le Mans would look like through the eyes of a hollywood star. Im not sorry i bought it and although it could have been a lot better if you love car racing than this film deserves to be seen. Just make sure you watch it on a big tv as the racing and cars deserve it.

I may be biased because I am a Steve McQueen and Porsche fan, but this is just one of those classic films that draws you in. The racing is brilliant with some excellent filming. What's more you know that Steve McQueen was a racer himself so its less a movie and almost a documentary. You do get some of the older style, slightly boring, bits at the beginning, but otherwise its brilliant.

  Le Mans (DVD2003)
Review created: 03/11/09

this movie is a must for collectors of thriller, car chase and/or steve McQueen Movies.
as many of these films go this one has great cinimatography with well directed action, no modern overblown special effects just good old filming.
as with many of his movies Steve McQueen did many or all the car stunts himself and thrived on making his part as real as possible.
this rivals grand prix as the greatest motor racing movie of its type and still stands up today as a classic racing movie.
as a viewer watching this dvd i find you get sucked into it feeling the power from these great Le Mans racing cars even cheering on the more famous ones.
Sadly the world of movies lost Steve McQueen too early and suffered becouse of his loss.
most Steve McQueen movies are worth a watch and are a must for collectors.

The fact that McQueen did all his own driving, says it all. A racing classic. Panned at the time of release but truly a film to watch. Spot the 'Peckinpah_esque' slow motion sequences.

  McQueen - Le Mans
Review created: 15/07/09

If your a racing fan this is a must see but if your not, as my better half explained to me, "this film has no plot and no talking, its just cars going around". Its a pretty fair comment, the plots no greater than a mans desire to win. The film portrays the danger, the glamour and the speed beautifully and the start of the race is a real highlight as are the spectacular crashes. Being a racing fan and a Steve McQueen fan I was really looking forward to seeing this iconic movie and for me it didn't diappoint but I would say it has limited appeal.

A must see for any fan of McQueen or classic wheel to wheel 70's motor racing. Great cinematography combined with a great subject and grovvy Michel Legrand jazz funk soundtrack makes for a glorius nostalgic ride into racings past. Don't worry about the dialogue or storyline, after all it's just a race - but what a race. Superbly captures the emotion of this gruelling 24 hour enduro as McQueen battles rival teams and his own demons. Any racing fan has to have this in their collection.

This is "Old Testament" stuff for Petrol heads, probably the last of the true racing movies. A must for GT fans. If you like your films with talking then this is probably not the film for you. As far as a romance goes the Porsche 917 is the real lady of this film. Rather than the directors choice of Elga Andersen Overall as a normal film 6/10 as a racing film 10/10.

It was very slow for the 1st half hour of the film, but it has some great racing in it, I brought the film because I go to the la mans 24hr race every year & it was good to see the racing in the 1970,s there, its a great road race.

Great film over all.

Le Mans ( !970s film starring Steve McQueen )
Review created: 03/04/08

Firstly if you're NOT a Motor-Racing nut, please don't waste any more time reading this, this film is NOT for you. However, if like me, you've petrol rather than blood running through your veins then this is right up your street. There's very little story or plot with this film, but plenty of racing action, much of it actual race footage, and the opportunity to watch some of the great race cars of the early 70s in action. What little "plot" revolves around the McQueen character, he plays an American successful racing driver, who is racing in the "Vingt Quart Heures du Mans", 1 year after surviving a major crash in the pervious years event. One of his fellow competitors wasn't so lucky, his widow has attended; during the course of the film she and McQueen find themselves drawn to each other. However all this is totally secondary to the cars and the race action. To be honest forget McQueen and Co, the real stars are the Porsche 917 and Ferrari 330 prototype sports cars.

Any Motor-racing buff will love this film, others may not be so keen!

Absolutely iconic, no pretence of a story line, just so well produced that you feel like you are watching the best racing documentary ever. On a par with the Italian Job (the first one!).

in my opinion this is a good movie to watch if you are a car nut. it is unique in as much that it splices real race footage, with the staged film shots. not much of a plot, but when you can see porsche 917's in action against the ferrari 512, who needs it. have been to lemans on several occasions and it gives a good insight into the atmosphere of the place, and a period of racing sadly long gone.

Not just a worship at the alter of McQueen
Review created: 03/02/08

Le Mans is a film for the motorsport enthusiast over the script fan. It offers a chance to imagine what life was really like for the racers competing in the great 24hr race, without the glamour and CGI associated with so many modern films. It is a film for motorsport or die hard McQueen fans, rather than those hoping for a '70s romance tale based at a racing event.

The racing shots are truly nostalgic, putting to shame more modern attempts at following cars at speed. The film captures the true essence of the sport in its most glamorous years, ditching the usual hollywood tricks in exchange for realism - anyone who doesn't already feel drawn to motorsport or Le Mans itself might find the extended race sequences drawn out or tiresome. For the true enthusiast, nothing comes close in terms of the Le Mans spectacle.
