Sixties style Brit-pop, indie that sounds independent
Having grown up listening to the Beatles and a motley collection of heavy rock in the 1980s this album had always passed me by. The '90s and '00s have seen me listen to mainstream Brit-pop and properly appreciate the Smiths. Not as pop as Blur or Oasis, not as dance-beat driven as the Stone Roses, nor as pressing as the Smiths, this album fills a hole with beautifully simplistic guitar work reminisant of the Beatles around Rubber Soul or '60s Dylan. Solely a musician's album it has flaws (don't all musicians) but amply compensates with its rewards. If you want to hear the '60s brought into the late '80s indie scene then buy this album, if you want punchy guitar riffs and a sing-a-long to remind you of the club on a Friday night - don't! By the way, it was released in 1990 not 1999!
