Album Notes The Beatles: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Harrison.Given his unparalleled talent for innovative recording, mixing, and soundscaping, producer Sir George Martin has always been rightly referred to as "the fifth Beatle." Some 35 years after the Beatles disbanded, Martin was still shaping the group's music, as demonstrated by the 2006 release LOVE. The album (created to coincide with a Cirque du Soleil performance based on Beatles songs) amounts to a musical fantasia centered on the Beatles' output, with famous work from both early and late in the band's career collaged with great care and artistry.Martin's relationship to the band gives him a unique perspective (not to mention access to a vast catalogue of multi-track tapes), which results in a shape-shifting overview that encompasses demo recordings, instrumental passages, and snippets from some of the best-loved Beatles tunes. Beatles fanatics will be in seventh heaven playing "name that reference" on this sonic carpet ride, but LOVE also provides something of an "overture" to the Beatles' oeuvre. The SPECIAL EDITION comes with a bonus audio-only DVD featuring the album in various stereo mixes. Top Reviews  Intriguing... 35 of 36 people found this review helpful. I am a huge Beatles fan. they have always been my favourite band. I am, however, not sure what the point of this album is? It's remarkably well engineered and the sound is crisp and full but then you would expect that from George Martin but why did they bother. It is interesting to hear different presentations of Beatles tracks and I know it was a project done for a specific purpose but I just can't help thinking it was another money making way of keeping the group in the public eye (as if they need it!). Harden fans will of course buy it, my family bought it for me because they know much I like them. Make your own minds up, I prefer the original tracks in their original form. The best thing about this album is the enhanced sound production - the guiter playing is greatly improved but this is not an album for Beatle purists - However my 12 year old Daughter took an interest whilist playing it and now likes it very much and will freely play it herself - So this album could bring the great music talent of the Beatles to a new generation... highly recommend it - but not for die hard Beatle fans.
