Great Recorder, but some issues

It's hard to say what this recorder is like because of a few stupid problems which i can't believe LG have not addressed.
First the good points, 80 HDD, recording is so simple, push a button and off you go, timeshift again is a single button push, programing to recorder is easy, i think you know where this is going, it's very easy to use for both recording, editing and playback, and if you look around on the net there are ways for updating the system to record in mpeg4 divx filing and for ram disc recording, which is really cool to be honest. DIVX playback thru dvd or on the harddrive, timeshift, split edit, one touch recorded, videoplus, a hole host of input and outputs on the back of the unit and behind the flip down panel at the front, very versitile. A retro looking unit, quite deep in the scale of the newer models, but still a nice looking unit that performs well.
The bad points are only 2, but these 2 are important, the first is when you tune the recorder to your analogue channels, for some bizarre reason, there is flicking on the screen when watching or recording, which can only be put down to the recorder having some kind of brightness control built in (not overidable sadly), it can get very annoying and then sometimes it's hardly noticable, and with the lack of a freeview tuner built in, this kinda make this machine obsolete, the second problem and by far the worst is the dvd drive itself, they are shockingly poorly made, i had a drive fail after 8 months of use and if you look around you will see alot of them with failed dvd drives, and for this i can't forgive LG, they will charge you around £108 inc postage and vat to replace the drive which is absolute madness, you can buy a new recorder for that.
Ok, so why have i bought a second unit of this make, well, first, it was second hand, and second it had just had a new dvd drive fitted and knowing what i know and not burning many discs atm and having a seperate dvd player to play my discs, this makes perfect sense, why, because i dropped a 250Gb seagate drive into it and now get 130 hours of recording, and whats really good is that if you want to record a film from your freeview box thru the av2 input, the picture quality is superb, even on sp mode which is the second best recording bitrate, xp being the first which is a waste because there isn't much differenc between the two to be honest, you can even timeshift your freeview box thru av2 socket if needed, and guess what, no bright flashing like thru the analogue aerial.
This recorder/player is a good one, would have been excellent for the 2 problems i addressed above which i can't understand why they were not sort, ah well, corperate companies.
