LG KU990 Viewty Cell Phone

I just love this phone, smooth to use in every way. The little pen comes in handy for web browsing and texting with qwerty.
I didn't really want a 5MP camera but it doesn't hurt :).
The web browsing is divine, with full page view and all. The menu system is quick and intuitive but doesn't allow for much customisation like Sony Phones.
If you want to browse the web, check emails, sync your calendar, to-do list and take great pictures, get it right now.

At first glance I was impressed – large 3 inch touch sensitive, easy navigable menu and a 5 mp camera. Then it got better.
One question I did have, was it a camera with built in phone or a phone with a camera. When you hold one, you will understand this as up until now phones are phones and the camera is a bit of a gimmick.
The ku990 camera does give excellent photos, action shots are not quite so good, as with all digital cameras but you can change the ISO from 100 right upto 800. This means that you can do the high speed photo. Another couple of novel features on the still camera are the ability to take panoramic shots as it give you 3 placings to match up your scene. Also you can change the focus from automatic to manual, allowing you to be more creative. On the video, you can film at 120 frames per second. The normal good image video is 30. When you play this back, everything is in slow motion. Excellent for recording those stunts.
I wont mention the phone as most phones are the same.
When it comes to putting in text, either recording your contacts info or surfing the web, you have a choice of the normal number pad letter on the touch sensitive screen, key pad as on your key board or even letter recognition. All of these are available with or without predictive text. One thing that is not clear and I have seen a couple of questions on the net, is how to clear a letter when a spelling mistake is made. The answer to this it the middle hard key at the bottom of the screen.
So in summary, an excellent camera with built in phone or is that a phone with a built in camera

First class phone. Got rid of my nokia N95 to buy a LG viewty and I am glad I did.

The touch screen works very well, it look great, battery lasts longer than my N95.

Give the key board writing a chance you need to cover the whole letter with your finger dont be scared to cover the whole letter you would like to type not need to just tap it just cover it!

The only down side to the phone and its only a small thing, It would have been better to have the stylis fitting into the phone rarther than hanging on the side of the phone.

In closing I did a lot of surfing finding out about the viewty and found the you tube clips very helpful. This phone is better than the i phone to use.

And it goes with out say you will find the best prices on ebay RRP £240-£250 on ebay £130 to £190, Just make sure you buy from a trusted seller, I brought from someone with 100% feedback.

I have to say the camera doesn't appear to create genuine 5mega pixel picture quality, and image hue seems to be lacking in true reds! the firmware probably needs an update to fix one or two other very minor niggles - such as the phone rebooting when trying to re-open a draft e-mail! apart from those minor frustrations the phone is fantastic! call quality & volume are A1, as is signal strength! this phone has just about everything you could need and non of the gimicky things you don't! i.e. Sat-Nav on a mobile phone is next to useless, because if you're using it and recieve a call! the software exits - leaving you high and dry. Nice try Nokia, but people will soon see the N95 for what it really is - pretentious! The LG Viewty is the real deal.

EVERY THING ON THIS PHONE IS BEST I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. WOULD RECOMMEND FOR ALL. CAMERA OPERATIONS ARE AMAZING. I THOUGHT NOKIA N93 WAS GOOD, BUT I WAS WRONG.

The KU990 Viewty is the best phone I have ever owned. With its massive touch screen the photos from the 5MP camera when downloaded to your PC are excellent quality. The QWERTY keybaord option when texting is incredibly easy to use even with my big fingers without using the stylus. You can view all your videos and photos in landscape with good editing options and zoom facility.

this phone is perfect for me, it has a lot of features but is very simple to use, i read a lot about it being complicated but its one of the easiest phones i've used, the camera is great especially the panarama view, lets just say i was amazed at that, the touch screen is a welcome touch to the old fashioned buttons and responds really well, this phone has everything that you could need, all this and i only got the phone today,,,, buy it buy it buy it,

I genuinely love this phone. Having had touch screen mobile phones before i was not overly excited at the prospect of a new one. Lg however appear to have got it right this time. The buttons on screen are sized well enough to avoid pressing several things at once. The camera works brilliantly and is able to take pictures even when you are moving (as opposed to naff cameras where you have to remain perfectly still!). The themes on the phone are good and the menus are laid out well. Only nagging point is that in built ringtones and message tones are awful!.
Would definatley recommend this phone to anyone, so much so the better half has just nought one as well.

I found the choice for my next phone pretty hard. Ultimatly it came down to N95, Viewty or K850. I dismissed the N95 on cost and the fact its ugly and ive never liked Nokias. I fancied the K850 but reviews seemed to imply it wasnt the force it should be.
I had already been impressed by a freinds LG shine. I really liked the quality of it, it was way beyond my K810 and generally seemed a good phone.
There is also little doubt the Viewty is one of best looking phones in its class, plus it carries an extremly capable camera. So i got one.

Up close it lacks the quality feel of the shine, the back is bit loose and the front has cheap looking buttons. But it carries off the silver look well considering. All the buttons, covers etc are excellently designed. Certainly cosmetically it beats the cheap and nasty K810 to a pulp.

Its also a joy to use, like many the touch screen interface was a big worry before i got it, but it works superbly. The only grumbles being it can be a touch awkard to scroll, the buttons take up most of the screen and it doesnt always work first press on menu options. So easy to text, easy to navigate. Although not quite as versatile or rounded as my old K810

Which leads me to its problems and why i marked it average.
Biggest issue is the memory card. 2GB max, we are in 2008 ffs. Yes it takes 8gb hd but it becomes slow and clumsy. It wont write direct to it (so pics and vids have to goto phone memory first, which gets used up fast) and copying music to the 8gb card and creating playlists is a nightmare.

And the camera, Im getting about 1 out of 5 good shots. Yes, in good light and a steady hand it takes a fantastic picture, but most times its blured and over exposed. Im already starting to use my K810 for quick family snaps despite its lower quality.
And the bluetooth doesnt connect to my car properly, it needs to be reconnected to get audio output... how lame.

The video recording makes up for the hit and miss stills though. I was seriously impressed here. It also plays .avi files well on the big screen.

Overal-
Ive marked the phone average, but there is no denying its still a great phone. Just its faults are annoying. The K810's faults were cosmetic, this phone is the other way around.
That said, one of its problems is its trying to be a lot. And to be fair it makes a good job of it.

I bought this item as there was no way I could afford an I Phone (and didn't want to pay the line rental either - why limit it to 1 network who charge rip off tariffs?).
After debating for ages on either the viewty or the sony eriksson W960i, I plugged for the viewty (larger screen). I must say, that despite the struggle getting used to the touch screen (especially texting which can be extremely slow), I am mightily impressed by the phone.
Sound via my Jabra Bluetooth headset (which boosts the volume) far outstrips the sound on my old Sony W900i phone.
The screen is huge by phone standards (which is a must if you use the we on your phone as much as I do now) and the colour is excellent.
So far (touch wood), despite the texting problem, I have nothing but praise for this phone (though I haven't used the camera much).
The battery life is excellent and last me about 3 days minimum (even listening to music an hour each way to and from work and having bluetooth on constantly for my headset).
However, make sure if you buy this phone you buy some screen protectors (you can get these for very cheap on ebay) to prevent your nice big screen getting scratched. you may also want to look at buying a protective case if you have a habit of dropping phones like me (yes dropped it twice already in a few weeks with no damage!)
Quality product and I would never go back to Sony again if LG keep churning out phones of this quality.

Is this the best phone

The LG KU990 "viewty" has never been advertised as a rival to the iphone, focusing more on the camera & video features as apposed to the 3” touch screen, but it should, and believe me this phone IS the IPHONE KILLER.
Lets start with the camera, it has a 5mp Schneider-Kreuznach lens with auto & manual focus, image stabiliser, xenon flash, 16x zoom, and easy capture of low light images with it's ISO rating of up to 800. Personally i have seen better images taken from other camera phones like the SE K800i 3.2mp cyber-shot, on tests I have done there is a real significant difference in the image quality and that is very disappointing, I believe this to be down to the KU990's image processor which seems to be very slow in it's rendering & as a result blurred images are more frequent than you would like, plus the xenon flash’s ability to fill the subject with light isn’t strong enough from a little distance. The answer? Well LG have put an image stabilising function to the phone which helps (a little) neatly positioned next to the shutter button, however this feature deactivates the flash therefore bringing back the blurred images in any condition other then bright sunlight. LG do sell you the KU990 as a "camera phone" and if they are relying on this feature alone then I’m afraid it's not the best phone on the market to-date. But there not just relying on the camera, they are also boasting about the video capabilities, why?, because this neat little device captures video at an impressive 120fps, which means when played back everything is in slow motion, great fun, it can of course record in normal mode and outputs in avi format, with the quality being quite good & the ability to upload direct to YouTube, the video side of things is well catered for. On to the best bit of all, the 3” touch screen that is bright, clear & well laid out. Sensitivity of the screen has been calibrated to perfection giving you a visual indication of the area your pressing & combining it with clever vibration, it feels great and it’s at this point you realise why this phone is one of the best out & why it’s the iphone killer. This should have been the selling point from LG & directly put up against the iphone. Navigation & functions are well laid out & large enough to press the options you want with your finger without accidentally pressing the wrong area.
Texting on this phone is a dream with three different options to do it with,
1- The most common, the simple keypad which is amazing to operate, in the same manner you would with a standard keypad phone write your text message in either the multiple pressing mode or T9 predictive text.
2- Qwerty keyboard, which as it suggest is the same format to which you’re using on your computer right now, great idea but the “keys” are a little small because of what they have to fit in the screen area & as a result you end up hitting the wrong letters & spend a lot of time correcting mistakes.
3- Hand writing technology is brilliant for writing texts on the KU990, simply write the letter in the box & hay presto it appears in the message like magic. Other features just add to the greatness of the KU990 like the built in FM Radio, document reader, flash player, games ability, web browsing, & the sleek & stylish design. All in all a great phone that when you get your hands on you’ll never put down & not look at getting another phone for quite some time.

Must read! i knew someone who has got this fone and ive never realy liked it because i thought it was a rip off version with ith i-phone and within a few minuits of the veiwty i couldnt get used to it and i had great difficluty scrolling down but when i was bored i read the manual for the fone and then my opiion of the phone changed like that, i found out that you can use the camera wheel to scroll up and down in menues which i had trouble doing so on screen and i found out i could zoom in on web pages using the wheel and it realy helped me the fone is great so many features but you do have to read the manual to get the most of it and understand the phone

In all a good all round phone with a superb five megpix camera you do have to read the manual to know all the short cuts and understand the phone.. but so many features and touch screen does zonk your battery and you would of thought theyed either supply a spare battery or make the life bigger.. i give it 8/10 ..... read the manual first!!!!!

The LG KU990 is a really smart phone, and relatively easy to use.
I've never had an LG KU990 before i've generally stuck to Sony Ericssons but I think I could be converted. The technology appears to be better and being able to write your own messages with the special pen is a real bonus. I've always been quite fast when sending messages to people and even been able to write them without seeing which keys i'm touching on the Sony Ericsson models, but this is much better with the handwriting recognition.
It very well worth buying I would strongly recommend getting one.
My only frustration is I seem unable to buy a hard pink cover for the phone, they only appear to come in black which isn't a major gripe.

Ok I'll be brief as I haven't owned this for long... just a couple of pointers if you're thinking of buying a viewty
1. They scratch very easy! I'm used to throwing my nokia n73 around but this i wont put in the same pocket as my loose change. If you put it down on any surface you have the choice of scratching the screen or the camera lens that has no cover.
2. You have to use the ring on the lens for several functions which is a real pain.
3. The pen thing that comes with it... I've got relatively normal fingers and I'm finding I have to use this pen thing a lot or it wont work or I hit 3 things at once... so you have to carry this thing around with you as there's nowhere to store it apart from on a string hanging from the side of it.
4. There might be a way out of this one but if you don't touch anything for 2 seconds and it goes on standby! You have to constantly push this button on the side to carry on.. beginning to get on my t***
5. Web browsing is a breeze. I'm using on 3 Network so have skype running in the background which is excellent.
6. You can actually run this with an 8GB miniSD contrary to what LG say, if you don't know how then google it or visit a site that has ku999 in the title! 8Gb means lots of music and vids available instead of carrying the other brick, I mean ipod with me. I dont use the ipod anymore as this does the job nicely. Couple it with a nice set of bluetooth headphones and your away.
Okay its got a lot of bad things going for it but it is a pretty phone with lots of features worth well more than the £100 or something you'll pay on ebay. Just make sure when you buy yours you also get a couple of screen protectors and a case to put it in. Or if you've got the money buy an iphone 3G. If you havn't I think this is your next best thing.
7. I'll come back to 7 when I've used it a bit more!

Tried the Apple i phone, and it was good but the idiots tied it to O2. So I got the Viewty. Good choice. Fantastic camera and a flash too! The touch screen key pad is so much better and the qwerty keypad allows you to practicly touch type, the software seems more user friendly and faster. Works great as a media centre, tried the ipod too and this is just as good. Unless you have some crazy reason to be tied to a really expensive contract with O2, or just want an iphone for some other reason, go for the Viewty. You will be impressed.

Great picture quality But do not buy if you are not good with gadgets!

I chose to look for a new mobile phone on ebay simply because my old one had seen better days and I have come to rely on ebay for alot of my purchases.
I loved the look of this phone on the advert, it was very well displayed and the information provided was excellent.
I chose to buy this phone as the seller had excellent feedback history, I liked the phone and of course the price meant a saving off high street prices. The postage costs were very reasonable and one of my favourite things about buying from ebay is that it was delivered straight to my door!

I also waited over 3 weeks for the phone to be delivered. It eventually arrived the day before Christmas Eve, and was also a present. I opened to check all was ok to find it was the wrong one!!!

Ecell do not answer their phone and many different people answered the many emails I sent them over the next two weeks, so there was no continuity. It seems that each member of staff only read the latest bit of the email, not bothering to read what had been discussed before. On 23rd Dec (the day the wrong one arrived, I managed to get confirmation that, once I returned the wrong item, they would despatch the correct one. I returned the phone back straight away by Recorded Delivery, costing me £2.65. It took them five working days (yes, they were in over the hols) from the time the phone arrived with them to actually take action. When they did - to my disgust - they just refunded the money I had paid! No explanation of where MY phone is (meanwhile, I have a very disappointed daughter still waiting for her Christma present!)
I had also requested the refund of my postage costs - I don't see why I have to pay for THEIR mistake! I doubt I will get this back.
Sorry - this is meant to be a review of the phone, not my rant about Ecell!
Don't buy from this company.

After waiting over 3 weeks for my phone to be delivered the day before Christmas Eve, bearing in mind this was a present, I opened to check all was ok to find it was the wrong one.

This left me to run round and find an alternative gift at last minute, I returned th phone back straight away by Special Delivery, i have proof that it has been received and signed for and as yet Elcell have not refunded me despite several emails.

The company is impossible to contact on the phone number they provide, and i am not happy with there service at all, and will be lodging a complaint, also if my money is not refunded soon i will taking it as fraud as i have proof of delivery.

I will not be using this company again, it has also put me off making future purchases on Ebay!

Good Phone, great camera (good for video and stills).
Big colorful display, making typing on the touch screen easy for texting etc.
Lots of features and expandable memory.
Great Phone if you enjoy taking pictures, good stuff.

A great touch screen phone with good camera, music player, and operating system.
