A curious hybrid of western and kung fu, this series was a massive success when I was a kid and is just as good now. Brilliant.

I think this must have been one of the most efficient deals I have experienced in eight years of using eBay - I placed my order using 'buy it now' at about 4pm one day, and the item arrived first post the next morning. The item was exactly as described, was well packed and I had received email communications in the meantime from the seller. Thanks for making this purchase a very positive experience.

  Kung Fu TV Series
Review created: 27/06/09

I used to watch the original tv series. I loved the educational, philosophical and spiritual dimension of the show. David Carradine was excellent in the role and there were many excellent actors in the series doing cameo roles.
I especially liked the exploration of love and relationships and the minute attention to detail. The team that produced those half hour slots of tv every week were so talented! For those youngsters who haven't seen the series give them a try. There is so much to learn 'grasshopper'.
I was saddened to hear of david carradine's death, especially the nature of it. He was terribly underrated as an actor and brought pleasure to millions of people. My thoughts go out to his family.

Not as good as they used to be!
When I saw these programmes in the 70s I thought that they held deep mystic insights, a guide or code for life. Now with modern special effects, and bigger budgets, modern films like Tiger & Dragon make these seem almost amaturish. The fights are clumsy and would surely have been more dramatic had Bruce Lee not been rejected for the part. Yet they still hold a charm. They are somehow more realistic than a BL spectacular. The character is also flawed, making him more human.
The monkly wisdom now seems trite, almost flippant, but I still got a sense that there is a better way. Maybe I have just grown more cynical, but the price was certainly worth paying for the nostalgia. I loved them.

  Kung Fu - Season 2 (DVD 2004)
Review created: 28/06/08

I grew up watching the origianlly series, transmitted in the early 1970's, and after all that time, the characters and storylines have lost none of their charm. Carridine is brilliant in the role of Caine, the wandering Shaolin priest, who has no interest in the profit & greed of the emerging USA. Unlike the Bruce Lee type of films, this is not all about fighting and brutally kicking the living daylights out of people also - it's more based around the wonderful morals and wisdom of Buddhism and Taoism.
An excellent set of DVD's. Top notch viewing!
