Easy to use.Very sympathetic to the amateur as all the technicalities have been sorted in the design.(Decades ago it was a nightmare with exposure meters, setting aperture,F rating, film speed etc now all taken care of)

I bought it as a replacement as my son "borrowed" mine, but I guess thats what dads are for.
If I could fault it at all,its hungry for batteries, but I guess its probably the way I use it.Buy without hesitation and enjoy.

What i really like aout this camera is how easy it is to use and the zoom on it brings things so close that you can almost touch them. If you are serious about your photographs this is the camera for you . I take a lot of spoer pictures and this camera is very good for this.Even if you are taking shots of landscape or just the family it is easy to use. Buy it you will not be sorry you did.

Used the Z740 for 18 months now and would recommend it to anyone wanting a decent performance in a reasonable size at a budget price. I had already put my Canon EOS 500 SLR to one side because of its size and been using a small fixed focus telephoto compact. This little camera, which fits in a handbag, has a better focal range than the SLR with its (massive) 300mm lens. On safari in Kenya recently and really pleased with the results - great close ups and action shots. You should see the one of the fish eagle pouncing on the water! If I did this type of wildlife holiday again I'd probably buy a teleconverter to get even closer. The 5mp gives me great A4 prints at home and for watching on TV or the computer. Only downside - no manual focus but you can manage 99% of the time without.

This is an exellent camera for beginner through to professional.

The zoom is fantastic and the 5mp provide excellent picture quality. The camera can focus on an object from as little as 4cm way on the close up setting and on objects that are an unlimited distance away due to the landscape setting.

The batteries last a fairly good time due to my 2500mAh battries I use. The card has a 32mb internal memory which can hold up to 2 minutes of video and up to about 50 pictures in 5mp setting. I have got a 2gb SD card in mine and that holds over 80 minutes of video and about 1300 pictures in 5mp setting.

The Camera is simply to use and the time taken from ripping open the box to taking high quality pictures and videos can be as little as 2 minutes.

I recommend a memory card of at least 1gb and a good quality camera case to keep it safe and scratch free. I also recommend purchasing a lens adapter if it is not included if you buy from ebay or such like as it can add extra protection of the lens.

As an ex proffessional Photographer i suppose i have always been a bit over critical in the way i scrutinise cameras and photographs,( not always to my advantage!)
I have to say that i picked up one of these cameras to take on holiday at the last minute.I could not find the real pro deal i wanted and thought i would wait until the price of more advanced cameras came down in price.
This camera is great! Ive had it over a year no problems. Superb sharp detail up to 10x8, easy to use,and lovely colour saturation and contrast. The shutter lag is not very great either a problem on some cameras at this price.Dislikes no hot shoe,a little bulky, close focussing difficult, and no 28mm wide angle. All that said where else do you get this quality for the price, and, guess what, i still have not bought a pro camera yet,if i get asked to do any weddings i suppose i will just have to borrow one as i dont think i need an expensive camera anymore!   the ease of use

The Kodak Z740, what can I say the ease of use that it has is incredible most of it is point and shoot.
There are a lot of features ( backgrounds and likes )
My 5 year old daughter has had a bit of fun with it that how easy it is.
The 10 x optical zoom is great for closer shots and also the digital zoom means that you can get really close and it is great to use like the makro style.
The difference I have found to some of the other digi camera's in this catergory are, the ease to change the pixel in the menu not having to scroll through 3 or 4 different sheets.
Looking at the pic you have just taken and back again is just a single button.
I have not bought it for the easy share as i have a different type of printer so i can't comment on that.
I would say that this camera is the best it in the class and if this one went wrong I would definently replace with another Kodak

I have had a few digital cameras but this, like its brother the Z650 ( more megapixels - got one of those too!), give a steady clear and reliable result. I have blown up prints to A3 size with remarkable results. I put this down to the fact that the lens is large - after all how can you get light into the pinhole lens that some cameras have?
The other test is flash and the low light situations where this does well - with natural colours and minimal white out when flash use on light close subjects.
I have hauled it around building sites and although it is bulky the performance makes it worth while - the zoom is tremendous - I have some safari photos that are like you are sitting next to lions and elephants.
A big advantage when linked up to the docking station that will transfer the images to your computer and/or print to photo paper as well as charging.
I particularly like that the power is supplied by two AA rechargable batteries which are easily obtainable. I love them and would recommend either model.

This is one of the best value for money cameras you can buy.
This camera was reviewed on the gadget show two years ago i came out well ahead of every other camera in its class, yet a lot less expensive.
For family user this is the only camera you need as the pictures orint upto poster size with fantastic colour and sharpness.
The camera is very easy to use even the kids could work this one.

Simple to use Kodak z740 digital camera.
Review created: 04/10/07
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I purchased my Kodak Z740 from an Ebayer. My old z740 had to go to Kodak for repairs. I have used Kodak z740 since wife bought original for my birthday two years ago.
The z740 is simplicity itself to use. The auto focus is brilliant, as is the 10 times optical zoom Retinar lens. With the minimum 5.0 mp resolution you can guarantee good pics up to 20 x 30 inch prints. Black and white and Sepia prints complete the transition.
With my camera dock and "Share" button, producing photos to my computer is simple and easy to understand.
The z740 is very light and easy to handle, and with the hand grip, it makes for steady camera shooting.
I would recomend the Kodak range especially the z740, for amateur or professional use.

This is about my seventh digital cameras, some of which were much more expensive than this one & much better built. The Z740 is by far my favorite. It is easy to use, has a great zoom, lots of settings & simply takes great pictures with no messing about. You could spend a lot more money and get a so called quaility brand camera which is likely to be much better built, but you may find the picture quaility to be no better or even worse !. My seven year old las uses this camera & has taken some fantastic shots as well. Buy it you will not be disapointed.

  Easy Peasy kodak Z740 camera
Review created: 17/06/08
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My Fuji digi camera broke (whilst taking some self portraits!!) so the search was on for a new camera. I did not want another one with a shutter operation.
After receiving a butterfly photo from a friend taken with her Z740 camera I was impressed and the reviews posted on e bay for the said camera convinced me this was the camera for me, plus Kodak is renowned for cameras.
So here I am the proud owner of a Z740 Kodak digi camera.
Its wonderfully easy to operate, I sussed most of it out without reading the manual!, has got just the right amount of technology for 'special' photos, easy one handed secure grip with thumb operation for most features, can switch between eye viewer or lcd screen (saves battery power), there are different modes including sport, indoor party lighting and fireworks, good size and weight and the best bit (for me) is the lens cap pops off when switched on, now isn't that a photo life safer!!
The only thing I would advise is invest in the proper Ni MAh batteries, it takes AA so you don't have to spend a fortune, but DON'T use alkaline.
I also have a printer dock (another e bay bargain), which is fabulous and easy to print with.
So happy snapping for me just in time for Summer (there is a beach mode on the camera too!).

This camera is very easy to use. The viewing window makes sure that every photo is perfect before you take it. Like all kodak cameras the Z740 is excellent when it comes to taking photos and the easyshare web site lets you download the photos with ease and as it says share them with family and friends.
I would recommend this camera to all

I bougth this camera after investigating the following factors on the internet:
1. Quality of Pictures
2. Zoom Capability and clarity of zoom
3. Ease of Use
4. Camera Wear & Tears
I found the Z740 met all of the above criteria and more, it is lightweight and easy to use (I am a novice) The picture quality has been excellent especially when I am using the zoom which really suprised me.
10/10 FOR QUALITY / EASE OF USE / ROBUSTNESS / PRICE

I already had this camera, but it went wrong & cost of repair too much - but as I liked it so much I decided to get another on Ebay. I could have gone for a camera with more pixels at the same price, but without all the features that come with the Kodak Z740. I have found it excellent for my purposes - I take a lot of photos of my marine fish & have no problem with close-up. All round it is a very good camera & would recommend it to anyone.

An excellent and neat little camera

Obviously, I bought this camera second-hand and cheaply on eBay. For the money I spent, it is a terrific little camera, portable, easy to use, and the 10 x zoom is particularly useful for someone who wants to photograph architectural details that are at or near roof-level. I wouldn't pay full whack for any camera - I buy EVERYTHING secondhand if I can, but for £50 this was A GOOD BUY.
It exceeds my requirements (after all, I'm not exhibiting my photos at the Hayward or Photographers' Gallery), and is great for carrying cross-country to remote megaliths, for my website (www.irishmegaliths.org).

I purchased this item for my 11year old Daughter as she has taken an interest in my own. Starting high school this year she may firstly take an interest in a course run through the school and secondly get to use it on various field trips she may attend in the future. My purchase was very reasonably priced, it seems simple to use and easy to handle. She is overjoyed thankyou.

Very easy to use and good software package. I am your typical pint and shoot enthusiast but with this camera you are able to take your pictures one step further without needing any new knowledge.

The zoom of 10x is good but becareful to keep the camera steady on full zoom.
video mode is good, but microphone only really for subjects close to the camera.

this is the 5th camera i bought in last 6 months, the camera's result and resolution is fair enough. zoom works great for me and it doesn't go fade when we zoom.
the only flaw i found is battery time is not as good as nikon or canon. if you are looking for something simple and good result this is for you. and good thing is its not expensive, in reality you will not find any 10x optical zoom camera in this price,
i think if you doesnt mind its size, go for it
