Knocked Up (DVD)

You could throw a rock at a video shop and hit a movie about the joys of parenting, but very few of those gooey family flicks deal with the actual business of making the baby. That's where Knocked Up comes in. Delving fearlessly beneath the duvet of taboo, Judd Apatow's superb comedy follows the relationship between slobby stoner Ben (Seth Rogen) and go-getting TV exec Alison (Katharine Heigl) from a drunken one-night-stand to nursery shopping and labour pains.

Apatow is best known for his rollicking sex farce The 40 Year Old Virgin, but Knocked Up is pitched at a considerably lower key. While the subject matter is bawdy and the language extremely saucy, most of the laughs (and there are lots of them) spring from conversations rather than gross-out set pieces. Rogen's likeable slacker and his no-hoper pals can discuss the finer points of celebrity nudity until your eyes are watering, while on the other side of the partnership, Alison's sister (Leslie Mann) and her husband (Paul Rudd) provide a spot-on portrait of an arid marriage.

Like its central character's life, Knocked Up has a messy story, but one imbued with such sweetness that it's impossible not to love. It's a romance with the cutest of twists - imagine if Romeo and Juliet had nine months to fall in love before Julie Jr arrived - told with the laconic charm of a good stand-up routine and laced with moments of genuine insight. It's an adult comedy - not smutty (well OK, it is kinda smutty) but a comedy for and about adults. Most importantly, it's so funny that you'll be snorting popcorn out of your nose before the end.

This is a really good film and had me in stitches all the way through, so its well worth the purchase. I really cant recommend this enough, a full 5/5 from me, great comedy.

I actually fell of my chair laughing when I watched this, first and second time :) lol. Absaloutely hilarious. Can't believe I took so long to watch this. Thoroughly recommend to ANYONE! As long as they are over 15, lol.

I bought this movie as a 'blind buy', hoping to get a few laughs and then sell it on, but after 2 hrs and 13 minutes of quality grown up humour, I think this is a keeper. My wife and I sat down to watch this with no preconceptions of what we were about to see. We had both seen Judd Apatow's "40 Year Old Virgin" and were not eager to watch his latest offering.

The HD transfer adds little to the overall experience of the movie, as this is a script/performance driven piece (please seek out TMNT or Shrek on HD to REALLY see the difference)

Sound is good - the opening sequence and club scenes really pump your system. The majority of the movie though is dialogue driven, but is crisp and clear throuought.

Extras are plentiful, including a sweet picture in picture, behind the scenes, extra which is becoming more common in HD releases,

Definately a movie for couples who have kids, or for women who are maybe pregnant to that chubby guy they met in club. hahahahaha. See this movie, its good. :)

funniest and most original comedy in years. very good pacing and some great scripting. I recomend this to anyone who is looking for something to have them laughing very very hard

one of the best movies ever! it had me laughing for the begining to the end! when ben(seth roger) gets the pretty girl alison (katherine heigl) 'knocked up' both of their lives change. they both go through a fun and heart warming journey together. if you loved the 40 year old virgin and super bad then this is a film that you should deff watch! i loved every second of it and the bonus material is great!

very funny movie and so true to life in so many ways...makes me laugh every time..with lost of good acting a must see movie.

Such a brilliant film, its a must have. with great actors and a bundle of laughs. I really cant say anything bad about this film i loved it all the way through. Its bonus features are great to watch too.
Its great to watch with your friends, i would probably say more of a girly film but it also has guys comedy factor to it aswell.

This is a real feel good movie at heart with generous helpings of comedy along the way , 2 people falling into bed under booze filled antics regretting the decision in the morning and finding out the antic have led them down the parenthood path. Both leads (heigel & Rogen) are suitably capable of pulling off the script and have an equally capable supporting cast to ensure a well made and enjoyable rom-com / comedy / genre defined film!

It can be sickly sweet at times but thankfully it's well balanced with the comedy aspect also : Very nice addition to anyones collection.

Not the average film that you could watch, but Seth Rogen (who also stars in superbad and pineapple express) does the trick. When two people from different backgrounds meet at a night club, the rich beautiful girl gets knocked up and decides to keep the baby. The film outlines their relationship during the time of her pregnancy. Great film for people with a teenage sense of humour. 5 stars in my opinion!

I love the price its in as good a condition as you would expect from a high street shop only its a whole lot cheaper! would happily buy from them again and would happily reccommend to anyone!

Excellent film, absolutley histerical!!! great run time and great storyline! The comedy just keeps on flowing in this movie. Might put many women off giving birth, but shows the funny side to every situation. Also may make some people change their minds about one night stands. The great thing is you see the mother and fathers perspective about becoming parents, but with huge laughs along the way!

I really like this film, its a bit chick flicky, a LOT funny, a bit of an all rounder film. The only thing wrong with this film is that the funny bits are sometimes dragged out..making them more annoying than funny towards the end. Well worth the money to sit an watch it though!

I thought this film was fantastic! There's one seen where the couple are at the hospital, they've just split up. (don't worry, that's not a spoiler) The argument they have is so convincing! It was amazing! Katherine Heigl's hormonal performance was unbelievable!

Overall, the film was slightly cruder than I expected, I would compare it to Superbad. I felt uncomfortable with the amount of swearing and sexual reference when my in-laws were about, but secretly enjoyed it. That doesn't detract from my opinion of the film though, as it was circumstantial.

If you like films like 40 year-old virgin, road trip, etc, you're in for a treat!

After a slow start this film seemed to sum up all that is good and bad about becoming a parent. Laugh out loud moments and plenty of poignant moments. Not suitable for under 15,s but brilliant for prospective parents,parents or just to have a good laugh at.
