Kirby Diamond - the best Kirby?

I have had a Kirby for about 20 years - and it is still as good as when I bought it. Solid reliability - but heavy with it. A few of years ago, when I last had it serviced, the Kirby engineer demonstrated their then current model, one of the "G" range (I think it may have actually been the Ultimate G model, known as diamond). I was so impressed by the power drive mechanism, which made it feel lighter to push around than even the lightest of cheap plastic vacuums, that I was tempted to buy it. That was until I was told the price!
Having looked at Kirby's recent models, I have come to the conclusion that they do not alter their design very much. The changes are mostly cosmetic. I suppose it is difficult to really improve them technically. However, the diamond maintains the high standard and adds one small extra feature - a low power switch to allow it not to suck doormats off the floor. This has always been a problem with my old one. However, the real bonus with my new ebay purchase is the power drive. Its a joy to use.
I hear that Kirby's latest model has actually incorporated more plastic components, which may make it lighter (and cheaper to make?). Since the G series are already so easy to manoeuvre this is unimportant and is a reduction in quality as far as I am concerned. Hence the title!
