Over the past couple of months I have bought 2 G5 Kirbys from ebay auctions , one for myself and one for my exwife, she always wanted one but new ones were so expensive . I paid £113 for one with all its tools and £50 for the other with no tools . Both of them needed a little work and a few plastic bits , all available on ebay , its amazing what autosol and a little elbow greese can do to a Kirby .The G series has not changed much over the yeas from the G3 through to the new Sentra just the colour of the bag and the plastic trim , pre G series , forget it , no tec drive and to be honest people want far too much cash for 20 odd year old heratige and legend models , ok take a punt at £30 if you realy want one but no more . I saw a G5 go for £350 in an auction the other day , ye gods thats crazy money for a 13 year old machine , so what do you pay for a Kirby in an ebay auction ,well IMHO £150 tops for a good G5 with all its tools and some service history (they can be expensive to fix if you buy a bad one )G3's and 4's(no kevlar fan) a little less and up to £250 for newer machiens . Lets take the new Sentra , they cost about £1500 new BUT, now this is a point that some people may argue with , THE ACTUAL WORTH OF THE MACHINE AND ALL ITS KIT is about £600 new , why do I say this , Kirby sales people get comissions for selling them , so work it out for yourself, second hand £450 tops. So why buy a Kirby , simple , there the best vacuum you can buy ,4 times the suck of a Dyson and last a lifetime if their looked after but they are heavy to lug about and the tools take a little longer to fit but its worth the effort you wont be diddapointed , so go buy one but dont go mad and get auction fever DONT PAY OVER THE ODDS .
