Kings And Queens (DVD 2003)

This was a series first shown on Channel 5 4-5 years ago and I enjoyed it so much, I had to get the DVD.
The set contains 2 discs each with six mini-biographies of key British monarchs whose reigns changed the face of Britain. The monarchs are; William the Conqueror, Henry II, Edward I, Henry V, Richard III, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Charles I, Charles II, George III, Victoria, Elizabeth II.
The slightly rigid format allows for around 25 minutes per biography. This is obviously not long enough to do justice to the likes of Henry VIII or Elizabeth I, nevertheless the presenter Nigel Spivey does a good job of giving the basic story of political dealings, murder, sexual shenanigans, battles etc that make up British history. Particularly interesting are the location scenes of battlefields, castles and burial tombs of the monarchs.
This is highly watchable and a good starting point if you or your children want to learn about British history.
