Akiller of a movie?

The movie is less about a killer than about the convergence of feeling between a criminal and a cop. As usual, the killer's character, seeking to help a singer he incidentally injured, enables the viewer to empathise with him; the cop is (again as usual) forced into maverick behaviour by his less insightful supereriors and colleagues. And their adversaries' guns never seem to hit anything (at least, not mortally)whereas the guns of the cop and killer frequently seem to have inexhaustible ammo. So, a stereotypical crime caper movie? Not really, because this is made in Hong Kong not Hollywood and is so much better for it. Crucially, Hollywood would never have allowed the ending to be as it is in this film, and it would have toned down the homoerotic interplay between the killer and cop. The production values might have been higher in a Hollywood production, and the sexual attraction between the killer and the singer would have been more stated, but then we would definitely have a stereotyped movie. As it is, this movie comes over as original and fresh even after some 18 years. Well worth acquiring.
