After dropping a couple of singles that were mocked by critics more than they were played by the public, K-Fed released PLAYING WITH FIRE in 2006, a full-length collection of hip-hop tunes in a lite West Coast g-funk mode.Whether K-Fed deserves the ridicule people love to heap on him is a decision listeners will have to make for themselves. Federline's heavy-lidded flow and simplistic rhymes aren't going to win him any awards, and his G-funk beats may be a bit too familiar, but the value of PLAYING WITH FIRE lies--like Paris Hilton's PARIS--in its status as pop culture currency. Hip-hop purists will recoil, but the album will likely sell a lot of copies. In doing so it will probably reinforce K-Fed's reputation as "America's Most Hated," and help that reputation grow.
