Kenwood DNX 7200 Car DVD/CD/Sat-Nav system

The Kenwood DNX 7200 is a double DIN high level sound system with a 6" touch control screen that preceeded the current DNX 5220. The only significant difference being that the later model has Bluetooth built in whereas the older model uses a separate [optional] unit.
I bought this to fit a Toyota Regius ["grey" import]as the importing dealer had removed the original Sony mutimedia/navigation system on the grounds that it would not adapt to European usage - which was actually untrue!
At first glance the Kenwood has a substantial gaggle of cables and sockets but in actual fact when used with DIN connectors fitting it is a doddle. Of course you have to wire in additional items such as reversing cameras, TV tuners, remote screens and any other gizmos you desire but this is not a problem - as long as you connect the hand brake warning cable or the DVD player will not work! Cabling to connect an I-pod comes standard as does an excellent remote control.
Once installed the Kenwood is both highly effective and impressive. The truly excellent [Garmin] GPS navigational software loads instantly, and more importantly, works straight away!
The Kenwood multi-functions superbly. You can run the Sat-Nav, radio or CD, and hands free phone all at the same time. The unit automatically mutes the music when a phone call comes in, or the Sat-Nav issues an instruction - all very clever!
The large touch screen is infinitely easier to see and use than, say, a TomTom type Sat-Nav even though it is set in centre of the dashboard.
Unlike a pop-up or slide out single DIN system the screen does not hide itself away which is an open invitation to the passing thief. This is something you simply have to live with - and the only significant fault with this system. The competitive Pioneer does have this ability but lacks in other features of the Kenwood.
The only other minus point is the complexity of the command screens as the system offers so many alternatives of operation. But the basic commands soon become apparent and letting the kids have the remote control will keep them occupied for hours - as will the set's ability to run DVD screens in the back of the car and radio or CD in the front, at the same time.
If your car takes a double DIN sized sound system the Kenwood 7200 really does do what it says on the tin. The sound is superb and infinitely adjustable to every taste. The Sat-Nav is also excellent with crystal clear instructions and umpteen options of routes or types of road to choose from. It will even give you an "off road" route if you feel adventurous - and find the nearest KFC if you get peckish.
All in all the Kenwood is a superb multi function car entertainment and navigation system. Although quite expensive compared to some similar style items currently on offer it is actually worth every penny. The quality of build is superb and it uses easily updated software that you can download onto an SD card.
I was quoted around three hours at £50 an hour to fit this unit - which is a total rip off. It took just an hour to remove the old radio, fit the Kenwood, get it running, and replace the dash!
