tribute to a national treasure

Joyce Grenfell, although her mixed parentage meant that she was in fact 3/4 American, embodied everything that was quintessentially "British".
This collection, including monologues and poems, characters and songs spanning a lifetime of entertainment are a beautiful tribute to one of the world's most eloquent writers and her intricate observational qualities.
We all remember her Nursery School Teacher and the flat “George, Don’t do that,” admonishment of an unseen child but take time to explore her repertoire of other characters and you will discover every corner of England portrayed.
Studied and reproduced in nuance and words, dizzyingly lifting and heart crushingly real Ms Grenfell is a powerhouse of diversity.
If you buy this DVD you are inviting into your home a talent as strong as Coward, a wordsmith to rival Stephen Fry and observational comment that would make a psychologist blush.
Long overlooked and (sadly) much forgotten (if it wasn’t for the equally impressive ability of Maureen Lipman); Joyce Grenfell deserves this celebration of her talent and skill.
To add a personal footnote, I bought this for my mother, she has played it 15 times.
