The Creek series are ones that like comedy type mysteries one can watch again and again, good star guests, subtle plots and something we need in this age of extreme violence and computer image action

  A blast from the past

I desided to relive a little mystery from my past and treat myself to an early christmas present. I watched when first shown the complete collection of Jonathan Creek and enjoyed it very much. I wanted to recapture the orginal mystery and hoped I would not be disappointed as it had been 10 years since the orginal broadcast on the BBC, However I was completely happy that the series was as gripping and orginal as I first remembered and had aged gracefully over the years.
This was definately a great investment and I look forward to watching them all againand sharing the experience with other friends and family. A first class show and well worth owning to watch over and over.

  Could have been better

The complete series (including Christmas specials) of Jonathan Creek is a must for fans of David Renwicks' work, as it is a great series ... But, something I didn't find out until I actually got the box set was the lack of special features. Now, in this day and age, special features are just that - special, but the JC box set seems to have past a golden oppotunity to make a great Box set a true masterpiece. I read that it included an audio commentry, but it only has this feature for episode One! Now, even thre cast of Red Dwarf sat through all eight series with a commentary, so would it have hurt too much to hear the other tips and tricks about the other episodes?
Apart from the One commentary there is a documentary, music video and some writer/director info, but nothing that really marks it for being a complete box set, which, for the money people can pay for this, is a tiny let down.
All said, its still great to have the full set on DVD.

I love the series and think it was much better with Caroline Quentin. I like the idea of the new series with the girl from 2 pints of lager and hope the BBC go through with that.

  Superb Series
Review created: 28/01/09
by:

Of the many detective/sidekick shows that have and inevetabley will exist, there are assuredly none like Johnathan Creek. This unique series sees a magicians creative consultant called upon by various cries for help from the families/friends of victims murdered in bizairre, seemingly impossible circumstances, to solve the cunning riddles they entail.
The first series still holds it's charm, even having been made many years ago, and is a wonderful introduction into the worls of the reluctant sleuth. It sees him team up with the plucky Maddie Magellan (played fantastically by Caroline Quentin), a crime-novel writer, who specializes in odd cases. The first series contains five fantastic episodes, including a special extended pilot episode.
The second series sees the show really begin to develop, both with the mysterious plots and the chemistry between the two protagonists. It contains six slightly shorter epsiodes that are just as befounding.
The third series sees the last appearence of Caroline Quentine, a great shame in my opinion, as the duo work fantastically together. It contains a further 6 episodes, which are incredibly well written, and the climax of the first three series.
It's at this point I should mention the christmas specials disk, which contains two feature length extended episodes. The first, a grotesque story about a double act, and a saw in half trick that goes horribly wrong (Black Canary)
The second (which sees the intoruction of his new assistant) another wonderful mystery that will keep you guessing. (Satan's chimnney)
The final series (series 4) sees the continuation of Carla Borrego (Julia Swahala) as a gutsy reporter, who gets Jonathan to assist in solving crimes for her detecive tv show for the television. The disk even contains a few extras in the form of video profiles, deleted scenes, and a music video.

All in all it is a superb series, that will always keep you guessing. This DVD set contains every episode ever made, except the 2008 Christmas special, which will presumably be released on it's own in the months to come.
It's rumoured there will be more to come of this brilliant series, and it would be a shame if there wasn't, as the fantastic writing, combined with the excellent acting and befuddling plotlines make it one of the best shows I have ever seen. Remember, sometimes it isn't the one you least suspect, but the LEAST LIKELY!

  Mysteries with a twist
Review created: 13/05/08

This was a thoroughly good series although perhaps a little dated now. The characters are quirky and the mysteries entertaining. If you fancy a laugh and a puzzle to set you thinking this is for you!

Jonathan Creek brings something totally original to television. This is an absolute must for any detective/mystery fans.   Murder and Mystery
Review created: 06/12/06

These stories are all mystifying until Jonathan explains, when it becomes obvious how the murder was committed! Each episode tells a fascinating story with a mixture of humour, suspense and intrigue - they even bear watching more than once because you can never remember exactly how it all worked!

  Master-works of Jonathan Creek
Review created: 19/08/06

Couldn't fault it. I loved every episode, and it was a very reasonable bargain too. Something I could watch time and time again without bordem. Not just for Jonathan Creek fans, it would also appeal to people who enjoy murder mysteries and unsolveavle puzzles. Favourite Episode - "Jack in the Box" very clever and very unexpected.
