Superb Series

Of the many detective/sidekick shows that have and inevetabley will exist, there are assuredly none like Johnathan Creek. This unique series sees a magicians creative consultant called upon by various cries for help from the families/friends of victims murdered in bizairre, seemingly impossible circumstances, to solve the cunning riddles they entail.
The first series still holds it's charm, even having been made many years ago, and is a wonderful introduction into the worls of the reluctant sleuth. It sees him team up with the plucky Maddie Magellan (played fantastically by Caroline Quentin), a crime-novel writer, who specializes in odd cases. The first series contains five fantastic episodes, including a special extended pilot episode.
The second series sees the show really begin to develop, both with the mysterious plots and the chemistry between the two protagonists. It contains six slightly shorter epsiodes that are just as befounding.
The third series sees the last appearence of Caroline Quentine, a great shame in my opinion, as the duo work fantastically together. It contains a further 6 episodes, which are incredibly well written, and the climax of the first three series.
It's at this point I should mention the christmas specials disk, which contains two feature length extended episodes. The first, a grotesque story about a double act, and a saw in half trick that goes horribly wrong (Black Canary)
The second (which sees the intoruction of his new assistant) another wonderful mystery that will keep you guessing. (Satan's chimnney)
The final series (series 4) sees the continuation of Carla Borrego (Julia Swahala) as a gutsy reporter, who gets Jonathan to assist in solving crimes for her detecive tv show for the television. The disk even contains a few extras in the form of video profiles, deleted scenes, and a music video.
All in all it is a superb series, that will always keep you guessing. This DVD set contains every episode ever made, except the 2008 Christmas special, which will presumably be released on it's own in the months to come.
It's rumoured there will be more to come of this brilliant series, and it would be a shame if there wasn't, as the fantastic writing, combined with the excellent acting and befuddling plotlines make it one of the best shows I have ever seen. Remember, sometimes it isn't the one you least suspect, but the LEAST LIKELY!
