Johnny Cash - The Man Comes Around (American IV) [ECD] (CD 2004)

There is not one mediocre track on this C.D. It opens with the title track and just get`s better! My favourite is Cas `s version of Personal Jesus, brilliant.I was inspired by this to add a second C.D of the American series, which is also well worth having in your collection.

I decided to buy the album purely based on the video for Hurt. I had never been a fan of J.R or known much about him but really loved the video when I saw it a few years ago. I decided to buy the cd because it has the video for Hurt on it and I also noticed a lot of covers on the album by bands which I would listen to anyway.

I would say out of the 16 tracks on the album about 10 and very good. My particular favorites are The Man Comes Around, Big Iron, Hurt, but most of all I Hung My Head. Ironically it is generally the covers on the album which I really don't enjoy. Danny Boy and Bridge Over Troubled Water in particular.

Over all I think the album is an asset to anyone's collection and since buying the album I have read his autobiography entitled 'Cash' and have seen the film 'walk the line'. Both by he way are also very good.

Its got the song "hurt" on it which is amazing. All the other songs are also good, like "when the man comes around" A++++

Most have heard Johnny Cash classics like San Quentin and A Boy named Sue. he probably gained more fans after "Walk the LIne" the movie on his life was made a couple of years ago.

As he grew older his health deteriorated and he looked older than he was, but that unique voice continued to enthrall. Sure some of his songs can appear depressing and others display a very strong faith, but they all demand that the words are listened to.

My favorite all time video is "Hurt" performed by Johnny near the end of his life. I defy anyone not to be moved by it.Watch for yourself on Utube.

put together after his death but recored in his last years to me he`s saying goodbye. the feeling in his voice makes up for it being fragile nearly moved me to tears well worth buying story telling at its best. you wont agree with me if you have never heard him before, this is really a story in song brilliant in my opion

This is one of the last albums from the legend.
This album is full of emotion, and if your a CASH fan then this is a must have.

Have always been Cash fan.This album is by far the bestselecyion of songs he has put together.Heartrending stuff.You can sense the emotion he is going thru.

As has been said the cover this is a great album. I challenge anyone to disagree that his cover of Trent Resnors Hurt is heartfelt. You can't help but watch the video and not imagine that this was his own words describing his life. Some tracks are not so great but the excellent far outweighs the lesser tracks.
