The last hurt of Johnny Cash: a 'must have' CD with DVD

Along with the CD comes the DVD clip made for the song Hurt, written in the last phase of Johnny Cash's life - this is a heart-wrenching farewell that cries of the human condition - of lost youth and advancing years, the loss of the beloved, the end of everything lived in this life.
Many other tracks on the album also tell of death, the crime of killing a fellow man, of Cash's Christian faith: it could be seen as a dark collection except for the power of feeling to which the breaking voice gives testimony.
Cash's last recording promises to reach into the heart and consciousness of the listener: its nakedness invites self scrutiny, a giving of account in this life.
I'd seen the Hurt clip suddenly come up on my TV screen and been struck by it - I couldn't take my eyes from it. A month or so later Chicken Shack played live as support act to John Mayall led by Stan Webb who performed a stellar tribute to Cash with his own arousing cover of Hurt. The song stayed with me; I remembered the clip. I wanted if for myself and I wanted to show it to others. I tracked down the album that included the Hurt DVD on Ebay.
Profound emotion, clear as glass guitar, an album worth of attention even for those who have not been big Cash fans in the past. Images of the man in his early and last days. Unforgetable. Highly recommended.
