An awesome box-set of this classic work
Review created: 02/03/08(updated 02/03/08)

I first heard this album when my dad bought the original, vinyl, version back in the 1970s and I had always intended to buy it on CD but only recently discovered this Collector's Edition.
What you get is six CDs and one DVD documentary.
The first two of the CD are, naturally enough, the actual work itself. However, you actually get two version on the same CD! How clever is that?!!
One is the standard "stereo" version, albeit in re-mastered format. (ie they've tweaked it a bit for modern systems!)
The other version is playable on enhanced, 5.1 surround Super-Audio CD systems. I don't know what that is but, of course, there's a Wiki entry for it ;-)

I can't say anything about that version though as I don't have the necessary equipment to play it on.
The other four CDs contain supplementary material relating to the main feature.
The first is the 'remixes' album originally released as "ULLAdubULLA" back in the late 1990s. Again, this has been 'enhanced' for this special box-set; but still only in stereo, not SACD!
The other three CDs are "original studio out-takes" that have been specially compiled from the master tapes of the recording sessions; including original radio ads for both the WOTW album and the (previously un-heard) 1969 radio advert for Lego toys that eventually became "Forever Autumn". I kid you not; it's on CD4!
The big surprise for me was not the CDs or the DVD but the packaging. Let me explain.
I was expecting a CD case-sized box-set with perhaps a little booklet. What I received was a vinyl album-sized hard-cover 78-page book with lots of back-ground information on the history of both the recorded project and the original HG Wells novel that inspired it Also, information on the spin-off singles, PC games, etc.
All this *plus* detailed track listings and a complete transcript of the entire work.
I can't think of anything they haven't included!
This really is an excellent tribute to a classic album.
