Jeff Buckley - Grace (CD 1999)

Great debut album from the sadly missed "Jeff Buckley" All the emotion needed in a album, major influence from artists such as Muse / Radiohead among others, buy this album and you won't be dissapointed With super tracks such as Mojo Pin & Last goodbye Cheers Dan @ 4ord-records.

Jeff Buckley is a massive loss to the world. His lyrics, passion and music have inspired many and Grace is a fantastic debut – that was to be his only completed album. It may take time to get into, all of his tracks have feeling, soul and talent laid down as standard and at some of the prices I have seen is an absolute essential for any music collection.

I had not come across this disc until hearing on two consecutive Sundays on Desert Island Discs the song Hallelujah. I was entranced on the first occasion but had missed the name of the artist so was delighted that the following week it was chosen by yet another guest. I had failed to find the disc in local shops so was thrilled to find the album on ebay. The disc is one of the best I have ever listened to and Hallelujah remains as haunting as the first time I heard it.

This is the best cd i have ever heard ever since i bought it i havent put it down. every song is so amazing in its own way if you do not have this album i would rate it 5****** it is literally in my opinion the best album ever.once you have listened to this you will like me go and buy everything there is on jeff buckley.r.i.p jeff

Bought this on a recomendation of someone who's taste in music I have come to respect. This however far exceeded expectation. Many cliches come to mind but won't go there. This album may take a while to get into but once familiar it is captivating.

As strange as it may seem, I had never come across Jeff Buckley till I heard "Hallelujah" on the radio. "Grace", the album has the power to move the emotions in a way that no other album I can think of. All the tracks are pure quality and show the true style of this singer/songwriter. A must-have album for any taste in music.

i bought an old grey whistle test dvd off ebay and jeff buckley was on it , i never looked back after that , a genius , one or two not so good tracks on the album but the rest more than make up for it a real classic album , i just cant understand why it took me so long to hear of him ,and if you like this listen to his live albums , buy it

Jeff Buckley was a name I'd heard but I'd never listened to his music, so I bought this on a whim. I'm very pleased I did. His story is a sad one and I suppose that's how I first heard about him. He drowned after taking a swim in the Mississippi (I believe) and there is absolutely no reason to believe it was anything other than an accident. I'm not going to go into each song, as it's all very personal, but his voice has a haunting beauty and range that left me profoundly moved and unexpectedly saddened by his loss; perhaps it tapped into a latent innocence I thought was forever gone. On reflection, it reminded me of the first time I heard "The Bends", by Radiohead. Buckley was hardly prolific; Grace is his only 'proper' album, although I believe there are various compilations from an incomplete second album and extended single CD's available. I can only recommend you listen and decide for yourself.

Great to chill out to, Jeff Buckley's version of halleluyah has got to be the best one, what a waste of a young talented muscician, RIP Jeff Buckley, your music lives on, definately worth buying this CD !!!!!

Decided to buy this after hearing the Jeff Buckley version of "Hallelujah" on the Jeremy Vine Show (Radio 2), and learning about Jeff's untimely and accidental death.

Played it one morning, replayed it and put it into my car CD, where I play it whenever the journey is long enough to listen.

A beautiful, melodic voice, the only track I don't like (and don't feel goes with the rest of the CD) is Mojo Pin, the first track. Particularly like Halleluhah and Lilac Wine, the Last Goodbye is beautiful too.

If you decide to buy this CD, I don't think you will be disappointed. Well worth a listen to.

This album is an extraordinary piece of alternative rock history. Buckley's voice has a very impressive range that takes you high and low on this rollercoaster ride. Best track is easily the magnificant cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'. This is an album that people with almost any musical taste will fall in love with. Definately a grower.

I heard a few tracks being played on the Radio, so I thought my wife might like to hear the complete CD, I was right, she loved it.

I cannot say enough to sing the praises of this album. Jeff Buckley has the most amazing voice i have ever heard. Grace has a haunting, yet addictive quality, i would strongly reccommend that everyone should listen to this album. His adaptation of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', is beautiful and absolutely every song on this album follows suit.

Great hauntingly atmospheric melodics with a voice that cuts like a knife.
Lilac wine and Hallelujah are standouts.

This has to be one of the best Albums ever made. The music is out of this world writen and performed by a ledgend.

I only wanted this CD for one track that I have heard and never knew who covered it until I heard the song on a recent TV show and they mentioned the person who recorded it, not that keen on the rest of the tracks but thats really due to it not being my type of music, if its your kinda thing, enjoy!!

If it has not already done so, history will surely assign Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’ with the status of being one of the most remarkable debut albums of all time. Seizing the opportunity to show off his talents under his own name, and also no doubt keen to emerge from the shadow of his famous father, Buckley delivers an album of amazing range and variety.

Full-on rockers like ‘Eternal Life’ sit alongside more delicately performed pop-oriented tracks such as ‘Lilac Wine’, ‘Grace’ and the truly beautiful and moving ‘Last Goodbye’, the lyrics for which gain added poignancy with the knowledge of Buckley’s tragically early death.

Astonishingly diverse cover versions such as Benjamin Britten’s ‘Corpus Christi Carol’ and Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ are performed with precocious confidence but Buckley also shows that his own material is the equal of any other.

What gives Jeff Buckley the ability to cover such ground, of course, is his voice which leaves the humble listener struggling for superlatives. His vocal range and depth of passion and emotion is truly extraordinary. I must have heard his version of ‘Hallelujah’ a hundred times but it still gives me shivers down the spine. He sounds like a rock god one minute and a choirboy the next – incredible.

This album is consistently melodic, passionate and enjoyable. The music world was robbed of a great talent when Buckley drowned in the Mississippi. If you do not already own this album buy it now- you will not be disappointed.
