All tracks have been digitally remastered. Violinist Jean-Luc Ponty has had a wide-ranging career. Early on he was considered the next Stephane Grappelli. Uncomfortable with this, he changed paths altogether, abandoned straight-ahead jazz, and became one of the leading exponents of the Eurooean jazz-rock movement. Compiled from sessions recorded in the '80s and '90s, this compilation treats listeners to a variety of original works based around dance grooves, African and Caribbean simulations, and other period electronic beats. Ponty's playing is virtuosic throughout, especially on "Bottle Bop" and the motor-like "After the Storm." On both tracks, he plays fast and furious solos, touching on some of his bebop roots along the way. Switching gears, Ponty returns to his earliest years with an arrangement for piano and violin of Frederic Chopin's haunting "Prelude No. 20, Op. 28."
