The Jam - Snap, A must have for any music lover

I've had this album on LP since it first came out but purchased it again recently on CD for use in the car. What else can you say about it other than sheer unadulterated brilliance.

From the explosive, lively, feel good factor of "Going Underground" to the heart rending rage and pathos of "Down in the Tubestation at Midnight", this albums got it all.

For any music lover, particularly for anyone who loves the late 70's early 80's
transitional period this is the album to buy.

A Good album with some well known songs but listen to some of the lesser known ones like English Rose, understated excellence, was this really born from the essence of punk?

five blistering years !! Pop at its powerful best !!
Review created: 20/03/08(updated 20/03/08)

I am not normally inclined to write a review but hearing this you have to say something ! Sheer brilliance I'd say and a must if you have nothing by the Jam but be warned there are 2 versions of "Snap !" the full Snap as the original vinyl "best of" with 29 tracks and on 2 cds and the "compact" version condensed onto a single cd with 21 tracks . I've checked these against my Guiness Book of Hit Records and it contains all of their hits some of which were double A-sides with the exception of "Just who is the five o'clock hero" which is curiously omitted from even the full version !? Anyway if you can track down the full 2-cd version do so as it includes such gens as "the Butterfly collector" and "Away from the numbers" .

Having been bought up on the Kinks and the Who I suppose I was destined to love the Jam . Though they coincided with the advent of punk the only thing they had in common was the angst so eloquently expressed in Weller's songs . This is pop as its most powerful best and towards the end of a blistering 5 years Weller's soul leanings were beginning to show and eventually led to the break-up of the Jam and the creation of the Style Council . A disappoitment to many after the heady days of the Jam they too sound great today and Weller went onto even greater things as a solo artist perhaps at his height on the brilliant "stanley Road" . Oops I feel another review coming on ! This could be habit forming ...

The Jam - Snap CD 2004
Review created: 14/03/08

If you enjoyed the The Jam, they you won't be able to play this without either singing along or dancing, I did both! Fantastic range of their songs. A previous ex nicked mine a while ago, am so glad I finally replaced it. You can't help but want to play it loudly!
