The Jacket (DVD)

A very unusual film, both in direction and plot. A war veteran Jack (Adrien Brody) who narrowly escaped death after being shot in the head, is wrongfully accused of murder, and as he suffers from amnesia he cannot explain to the police what happened. He is sent to a centre for the criminally insane, where they perform bizarre experimental treatments on the patients. This involves being given drugs, put in a straitjacket and locked in a morgue drawer for hours. During these treatments his mind transcends the present and is able to travel into the future where he encounters a woman Jackie (Kiera Knightley) who he met when she was a child. These encounters reveal he is destined to die in four days, so together they try to find a way to change the course of events. This film really pulls you in, and the unusual directing by John Maybury is extraordinary. Some great performances by all involved.

I bought this DVD because I like horror, supernatural and futuristic type films. Also because of the actors Kiera Knightley, Adrien Brody and Kris Kristofferson. I loved this film it shares all three descriptions above and maintains your attention all the way through. The story line is different to the usual films. Acting is good as you would expect from the names. Worth a watch!!

What a mind-boggling dimensional study 'The Jacket' is. It's like a surrealistic nightmare interlaced with an unambiguous daydream fantasy. It teeters between asylum and insanity. The film is a little complicated throughout and your left feeling Which "reality" IS reality? It's a very clever and skillful script that manipulates time and lives and keeps the viewer at all times piecing things together. So If you're starved for something that challenges you why not strap yourself into a mind-bending jacket.

Taking time travel and making it seem plausible is a hard thing to do, but I think this film manages it as it takes a human interest approach rather than a comic or fantasy line.
Kiera Knightly and Adrian Brody are two amazing actors and putting them together makes you beleive in the characters own plight, and doesn't leave you watching the film just for the actor.
I loved it.

superb film! i agree with the last review as well in the fact that it has been over looked by many people while at the movies or out to rent on the shelf. this film has some of the best acting i have ever seen in a movie. it has amazing depth and thought provoking qualities. definite must see!! and in my opinion own!

i love this film. i think it has an original story which is always good in a film. the cast is also brilliant. there is nothong i dislike about this film

I would disagree with the last review, yes it has the same theme as the butterfly efferct although,it has Oscar-winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist) as the main actor rather than Ashton Kutcher, Adrien performs superbly as ever.
I think that this is a very interesting film for mild sci-fi fans.
Definately one to buy or even to rent.

As a fan of Keira Knightley and weird spooky dramas, I liked the sound of this film , so I decided to buy it on eBay.
It is difficult to describe the plot without giving too much away. Suffice it to say , a Vietnam war veteran is convicted of murder and is hospitalised on mental grounds. His treatment includes locking him in a mortuary body locker whilst drugged and straitjacketed.
Although confusing at first due to the story jumping about in the past , present and future(?) , ultimately all becomes clear(ish) at the (slightly unsatisfying) ending.
Well worth watching , with an excellent performance from Adrien Brody.

This is a good interesting film with and captivating story line.
New and imaginative, different story with good twists, kept me hooked all the way through.

The story, the acting and the actors everything is brilliant about it. I watched it in the cinema ages ago and really liked it, found a great deal on ebay so decided to buy it.
This film is a must see!

Intelligent storyline, suspense thriller mixed with a bit of intelligent thinking scifi + keira knightley.... what more can you want? would recommend as a watch once and then sell on dvd.

time travel to the future, physcoldelic trip the gateway to find out how he died and to save the girl he loves

Very similair to The Butterfly Effect and Donnie Darko. A worthwhile watch with main characters that you will immediately warm to.
