Jack Lalanne Power Juicer 250 Watts

The Power Juicer Express is the 'slimline' version of the original Jack La Lanne power juicer but is supposed to have the same effectiveness. This is my first juicer and juice itself is gorgeous.

Learning curve - after two weeks and half a dozen attempts at juicing, I really feel I have the hang of it. Despite what it says on the JLL website, it really doesn't handle whole fruit such as apples and pears. Now I chop each into about three or four pieces and these push through without jamming the motor. Oranges and other citrus fruit you have to slice off the skin, leaving the pith, and whoosh, out comes this luscious fresh juice. Pear is fabulous, on it's own or with apple, as is pineapple. Strawberries, rasps with orange - mmmmmm - and you don't have to take the stalks out of the strawbs (as I realised part way through!). Carrot, cucumber and celery - yuk. I blame the cucumber. Friends say carrot and orange is good but I've not tried it yet.

I was a bit disappointed that banana and avocado were banned - no juice apparently - but you can whiz them into the home made juice afterwards. I use a stick blender for this.

The book says drink straight away and obviously this is best but, because it does take a while to dismantle, it's not worth doing less than about a litre. I have found all the juices keep well for several days in the fridge (if you don't mind the brownish tinge of rapid oxidisation on apple and pear) I use old one litre plastic juice or milk bottles.

Cleaning - I've not found the cleaning anywhere near as much of a hassle as I expected. It's no worse than cleaning the food processor and I actually prefer it to cleaning out the cafetiere. I took note of what people said on here about doing it straight away and that has paid off.

Price - I bought the juicer for just £34.99 in July 2007 after a general google search for online sellers. This was about a third of prices in other retail outlets and still considerably cheaper than ebay. It came in two days.

Disadvantages - what I really don't like about this model is that the cutting blade is held on by a small metal screw which you have to unscrew each time you dismantle it. Yes, you guessed right, I lost it about the third time of using. Luckily I found something from my toolbox to fit! Also, when I was trying to force through the whole apples, the pulp collector kept vibrating off its base causing the motor to cut out.

Tips - prepare all the fruit before you start; have another jug handy as it really does whack out the juice; work near your sink so that you can run the parts straight under the tap.

I love the way it looks out on my couter top, I love the way most of it pops in the dishwasher for clean up - however the moment its done the job I disassemble it and rinse all washable parts in cold water then leave them in the sink in cold water till they are put in the dishwasher. I love the way you can pop a plastic bag in the container so the pulp (if you are not using it for cooking or sorbet) can go straight in the bin. I love the speed it gobbles up fruit. I love the recipe book - and if that isnt enough check out the web pages for Jack Lalanne. But most of all I love the delicious FRESH juice which isnt full of strange stuff, preservatives and isnt reconstituted concentrate. What I dislike is the way folk DON'T use them regularly. Good fresh fruit juice takes a little effort - junk comes in waxed boxes and plastic bottles. If you want a cheap juicer buy a different brand for one that will last a lifetime and do a great job invest the £100 for one of these - worth double!

I saw these a few years back at the Ideal Home Exhibition and was quite impressed although the price did stop me from buying one. Last year they started to appear on Ebay so took the plunge. I love the way it gets all (well 99%) of the juice out of the fruit and that it's so easy to experiment with different flavours.

What I don't like is the cleaning. you need the special spanner thing to fully dismantle and it takes an age to clean and dry all the bits.

I've also found that if you are not precise in reassembly, the blades will cut into the top part of the case.

Niggle apart, I doubt if you will find anything that does the job as well as these. Just make sure you buy one that has the "free" accessories included.

Absolutely love it, use it almost every day. A bit of a pain to clean it ( and you have to do it every day, if using the juicer) as you'd need to unscrew a few parts, but apart from that - excellent thing, I've actually bought the same two ones for my mom and sister for Christmas.

i found that this juicer out shone the rest. It's very easy to use, even my 9yr old can use it. It's easy to clean and you get hardly any waste. The difference with this juicer is that it does what it says it does. You gett a lot more juice with this juicer than any other I have used

I love the taste there's nothing like it,also i buy a weeks supply of mixed fruit and juiced it all at once, put in cartons and freeze it then i can get it out when needed.I have had mine for 7 years i would buy no other make.Iam now buying one for my daughter as she is getting married this year,and she can't manage with out one.The cleaning is a pain but if you do loads then freeze it.It, not so bad

This is a great product which makes eating your 5-a-day so much easier. Just chuck the fruit in the juicer, skin and all, stick your glass under the spout, give the juice a stir and enjoy. The only downside is cleaning it but it's probably no different to any other juicer in that respect.

very good juicer.The thing i disliked about it was, they didnt explain how to dis asemble the machine. it was very complicated. but the it makes excellent juice. i would recomend it to everyone.

This juicer is outstanding.

I have put all sorts of things into it, and it handles them with no problem whatsoever, and most things don't need to even be chopped up or peeled. The juice tastes great, although I can't say I've tried cooking with the pulp. In fact, some fruits (such as oranges) that one might usually buy "100%" from the shop actually taste different because the juicer can extract from the pith.

My only complaints would be that the non-drip spout does drip a bit, and that cleaning the blade assembly could be easier.

Jack Lalane is famous for being a very healthy person, he's over 90 and still working out over an hour a day. Juicing is a very good way of losing weight and detoxing. However, I had tried before and got pretty fed up with the amount of work it takes to chop all my vegetables and my fruit into little pieces so that it could fit my first juicer. This one has a very powerful blade that reduces a whole tomato to nothing but juice. Also, it separates pulp from juice pretty well, and even if you put a complete orange in there you'll have nothing but complete juice, with sometimes a little froth on top but nothing else. It's pretty easy to separate the juicer's bits to clean them after use which has to be done because of the fruit flies that hang around if you leave it too long without a wash. Sometimes, the juicer's blade gets blocked though if you put too much stuff in it in one go. All in all, it's a great product, easy to use and wash and a perfect way to get healthier.

One problem, one month has passed since purchase and still nothing has arrived and the tracking no. provided does not work. Not pleased.

I purchased my first ever Jack La lanne juicer from a car boot Sale. I was sold. I have since bought a few for family or friends off ebay. They are trouble free, very easy to dismantle and clean. Those who received the Jack la lanne as gifts from me are also hooked.

This product is one of the best.It's very fast and Powerful and also Quiet leaving the pulp pretty dry

I like the way that you don't have to peel the fruit first. At the start I juiced everything possible but all of my family didn't go much on the veg juices so I just buy fruit for it now. The juicer can go in the dishwasher, but as with every other juicers, this is a bit of a pain to clean. It takes longer to clean it than to actually juice the fruit and drink the juice, but I don't suppose there is a juicer than cleans up after itself so that is just something that has to be done.

Overall I would recommend it as I have tried several others and this is more easy to clean and does get most of the juice out of the fruit and veg.

Powerful yet quiet. Little waste compared to my last juicer The Juice Lady Junior. Bought it to juice whole fruit instead of cutting it up inte tiny pieces.

this was a great bargain, and the next best thing to sliced bread as far as juicers go.I use it every day.It takes a lot of time to wash if you dont have a dish washer

i think this juicer is great. you can put whole fruits in, you get more juice than other juicers. i would recommed to anyone. i have used this juicer for over three years without any problems until one of parts broke. the downside is you cannot get the parts.
