Album Notes Slash's Snakepit: Eric Dover (vocals); Slash (guitar, background vocals); Mike Inez (bass, background vocals); Matt Sorum (drums).Additional personnel: Gilby Clarke (guitar, background vocals); Ted Andreadis (harmonica); Dizzy Reed (keyboards, background vocals); Paulinho Da Costa (percussion); Party Girls (background vocals).Slash's Snakepit is Guns N' Roses with a different bass player and singer, which means Guns N' Roses without its resident punk-rock fan and its hyper-dramatic rock-epic voice. Which leaves a classic two-guitar hard-rock band, steeped in Southern boogie and fronted, appropriately, by a singer whose role models are such '70s gravel-mouths-with-soul as Rod Stewart and Paul Rodgers. This is a classic-rock homagerie, a proudly unoriginal band that can coil around a classic riff as quickly and dangerously as snakes around prey. On "Dime Store Rock," they're the ghosts of ZZ Top; on the compact "I Hate Everybody (But You)" they're a monument to melodic hard-rock guitar; and on "Beggars & Hangers-On" they're the lost Southern rock balladeers that the Black Crowes have been looking for lately. Reviews Review created: 03/09/08 by: I bought this CD because I'm a huge Guns N Roses fan. And I really enjoyed Velvet Revolver's Libertad. This CD was the first Snakepit project to be done, during the Guns N Roses era, with some of the original guns line up, and to be very honest, I loved it. The vocals done by Eric Dover, were very powerful, the rhythm guitars done by Gilby Clarke were fantastic. Matt Sorum on Drums (and I've always been a fan of Matt's) were well done. Dizzy Reed on Keyboards and of course Slash on guitars were outstanding. There isn't any reason on earth for the rock fans out there to try something different if they haven't already tried this to do so. It's not an aquired taste, it's definatey for the rock fans who particularly like their Rock n Roll. Not buying this album as far as I'm concerned would be a crime and for those who don't should be thrown into a snakepit for not doing so. I have written this review as a musician and someone who appreciates all walks of music (except dance because it's talentless and it sucks). Take my advice if you wish, but on your own head be it Review ID: 10000000008539188 Was this review helpful? If you haven't already got it, GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review ID: 10000000008352744 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 26/07/08 by: an alright album.. bit different to anything he (slash) had done before but when you come out of the shadow of a group as big as guns 'n' roses it must to be marked on anything but past glories. I do think that this album is worth a listen tho. Review ID: 10000000008086005 Was this review helpful? Report this review When you hear Slash plays bluesy riffs on this albumn, be sure they are very dark blues. This is not 'my woman left me and I'm so sad'. there is plenty more attitude & anger on this. Review ID: 10000000005779974 Was this review helpful? Good rocking riffs and plenty of solo work so all round an enjoyable album. Review ID: 10000000005597382 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
