A bug from outerpace that turns sleepy humans into emotionless zombies. Mmmmm where’s my iPod, I’ve seen this before in black and white and in my opinion that was better.

However this is set in New York rather than a sleepy Payton Place town and hangs rather heavily about the neck of a psychiatrist who discovers its all alien and like the original War of the Worlds it has weaknesses that most be exploited to save the day. A plot taken from numerous films with a predictable progression to a logical conclusion; at least the professionals do what they get paid for, but not one I’d go see twice – even with Nicole Kidman.

5 out of 10 for the effort of piecing it all together from the numerous recognisable sources.

  The Invasion !!!

This film did not get much publicity so it nearly escaped my radar & I’m glad it did not.

The Plot: A space shuttle crashes to earth bringing along with it an alien organism that on contact takes control of the host while keeping their memories.
It is left to Carol Bennell a psychiatrist (Nicole Kidman) Ben Driscoll (Daniel Graig) to fight this invasion & come up with an anti-dote.

The Acting by Kidman & Graig is Fantastic and makes you feel the terrifying situations that present themselves.
This is a truly gripping film which is only let down by a poor ending which could have been improved.
Good entertainment for a Saturday night !!!!

A Body snatching 7/10

This film got critically slated, but you know, it isn't all that bad. If you enjoyed Invasion of the Bodysnatchers in any of it's many remade guises, then this film is definitely worth a slice of your time. The HD was also pretty good, and at the same price as a normal DVD, you won't be hearing any complaints from me.

  Science Fiction Thriller Chiller!

The Invasion is obviously a remake (of the remake of the remake?) of the classic Jack Finney sci-fi novel Invasion of the Body Snatchers, previously brought to celluloid by Don Seigel (1956), Philip Kaufman (1978), and Abel Ferrera's seldom remembered but simply titled 1994 movie 'Body Snatchers'.
Fortunately for both the directors Oliver Hirschbeigel (Downfall), and James McTiegue (V for Vendetta) and for producers the Wachowski Brothers (Matrix Trilogy, Speed Racer), The Invasion manages to find it's own identity, and as far as this sci-fi mad movie viewing veteran is concerned, The Invasion does a jolly decent job of adapting the story to fit the current times.
Ok, it's not a science fiction tour de force, but nevertheless, it manages to captivate the viewer sufficiently enough to keep them gripped and intrigued throughout.

Without giving too much away, The Invasion is a typical much visited story of extra-terrestrial life form(s) infecting and over-powering their human hosts, with the sole intention of taking over the planets governments, control the governments, control the world!
Nicole Kidman plays a psychiatrist, who (together with Daniel Craig and Jeffery Wright), discovers that the population is being over-whelmed by a mysterious flu-like virus, which is turning the affected into a sinister automaton-like collective (think Star Trek's The Borg, and you won't be far off).
Once certain of this blood chilling threat (and what it represents), Kidman, Craig and Wright battle to save their loved ones, friends, colleagues and mankind itself, from the oblivion of mass obedience and identity assassination.

Good solid acting performances are evident from all of the cast with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman effortlessly anchoring a fine and talented acting ensemble.

  The Invasion - Excellent Remake

After seeing a trailer on another DVD I just had to check this film out. Based on The Invasion of The Body Snatchers I initially thought it would be inferior, but I was wrong. It expands on the original and subsequent remakes in a fresh and exciting, sometimes frightening way. Unlike the original, the climax is refreshingly optimistic. Great performances and an upbeat tempo without being claustrophobic keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Worth buying just for Daniel Craig

They had to bring in new directors and re-shoot most of this before Warner Bros were happy to release it, which results in a movie that did not live up to its promise and become the summer blockbuster they hoped for.

To my mind the only thing worth buying this for is Daniel Craig. He can salvage the worst scripts and the most wooden of co-actors to make a lemon watchable.

The movie would have benefited from a better female lead. Sorry to upset any Nicole Kidman fans out there, but does this woman have more than two expressions to her face?

Underneath the primary storyline of the invasion there should have been the personal story of Kidman's and Craig's characters and their relationship, but it just does not happen.

The spark between them is just not there, and considering all the physical sparks that Daniel Craig has produced in the past (Layer Cake, Love is the Devil and of course Casino Royale come to mind) one cannot help but think the fault does not lay with him (excuse the pun!!)

So, bottom line. If you are not a fan of either Daniel Craig or Nicole Kidman (I guess she has some somewhere), then it is worth getting. Otherwise, be prepared for a movie that does not quite get off the ground.

I gave it a "good" rating just for having Daniel Craig in it which was the film's only saving grace.

The Invasion - not v good

The film was watchable, but very fast and ended as quickly as it started. Seemed low budget, kind of like a B movie, especially the train sequence - Daniel Craig was so wooden it was difficult to tell when he turned into an alien! worth a watch but not great

Bit of a let down :-(
Review created: 10/04/08

After all the hype, I bought this upon release, and was rather disappointed to be honest. Whilst Daniel Craig is always worth watching, I felt the plot was rather lame, and I kept waiting for the real nail-biting action to commence. The end of the film was a relief. Shame :-(

  The Invasion

Good film , should be treated as a seperate film from the original "Invasion of the bodysnatchers" Same names but different slant. I prefer remakes to stick to original cast sex rather than making lead woman instead of man and vice versa however in this case it worked fine. The new slant of a podless take over with slimy vector transferring the alien as a disease. Nicole Kidman's portrayal of Dr Bennell was very good- beauty and ability. The ending was alittle to happy fot a true horror though.
