Album Notes Green Day: Billie Joe (vocals, guitar, mandolin, harmonica); Mike Dirt (vocals, Farfisa organ, bass); Tre Cool (accordion, drums, percussion). Producers: Green Day, Jerry Finn, Rob Cavallo. Filling in grunge's fading pop appeal, Green Day and peers Offspring and Rancid kicked off a neo-punk revolution in the mid-90s still reverberating seven years later with bands like Blink-182 and Fenix TX. INTERNATIONAL SUPERHITS is a compact overview of the band's career-making major label run starting with 1994's DOOKIE right up to new songs like the rambunctious "Maria" and choppy charm of "Poprocks And Coke" recorded specifically for this compilation. D.I.Y. to the core, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirt and Tre Cool clung to K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) best exemplified by the straightforward punk of "Jaded". Basic ingredients include punchy guitar chords, undeniable hooks and tight harmonies that can be heard in their breakthrough rant against ennui ("Longview") and equally strident latter-day anthem for the underdog ("Minority"). Armstrong's constantly improving songwriting found him spitting out gems like the infectious "When I Come Around," inadvertent prom theme "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" and brilliant heavy mass "Brain Stew". Although Green Day missed the original wave of late '70s punks like The Clash and The Jam, INTERNATIONAL SUPERHITS! proves this San Francisco pop-punk trio wouldn't have had much trouble fitting in alongside these legendary names. I knew there was a Green Day song that I liked from 1995, but could not remember the title so bought this album thinking the scattergun approach would work. It was on and I ended up listening to the whole album in the car, at work, home, mp3 player. If you wonder what the Green Day fuss is, buy this album first. You will be converted. I now have to buy the others. The mix of their hits is excellent, with punk rock to ballads (Time of your life), equally impressive. Review ID: 10000000000071762 Was this review helpful? This is proberly my favourite CD by Greenday, no matter how many albums they release they are great, but I soon bore of most of the songs, this album though has been played on my CD player I have had to buy at least 4 other CDs of this as I listen to it so much it starts to skip! With some very catchy lyrics and great riffs and very melodic tunes, it makes this one of my top ten albums ever. Review ID: 10000000001194597 Was this review helpful? Think i have most of there albums now, had this album already some tracks were getting to be a bit distorted so needed another one. If you are thinking of getting your first greenday album, you can't get much better. Review ID: 10000000008254551 Was this review helpful? International Superhits is a compilation album of most of Greendays greatest hits with 2 new tracks at the start, Maria: a seriously cool song and Poprocks and coke : relaxing. This Album contains a wide range of songs from the heaver punk songs like Nice Guys Finish Last to the mellowed out songs like Good Riddance (time of your life) This album contains tracks from the bands previous 4 albums, Dookie, Warning, Insomniac and Nimrod. It is unfortunate that songs from the first 2 albums were not available to put on the album. You really should buy this album for the extra tracks alone but to get the compilation as well is a bonus. Rich. Review ID: 10000000006292668 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
