About 6 months ago I would have said, No way am I paying that price for any processor, but now Quad Cores have dropped in price alot this is an amazing choice of processor for your PC, with the right cooling of course. A must have if you want your PC to be future proof and be able to play upcoming new games and releases without any problems

The Intel Core™2 Quad Q6600 is an excellent processor for video editing and digal media

Not really recommended for average use because there not many programs to utilize the 4 cores, also some programs cause problems with the chip because of memory address issues

Vista is compatible if you put up with the ood bosod, again software issues

  Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 stepping
Review created: 09/12/07

If you're a gamer and you're after some extra performance, you can't go wrong with this CPU. While there aren't many software applications that have been coded to take advantage of multiple cores, Games developers are starting to take advantage of the extra cores. Supreme Commander, for instance, eats CPU cycles for breakfast, as does Lost Planet, so Quad-core really is the way to go. If you're after extra performance, go for the G0 stepping model - it's supremely overclockable, you should be able to ramp it up to 3GHz with air cooling, which when you take the price into consideration, is an absolute bargain.

Link this puppy up with a 8800GT and some 2GB of DDR2, and you'll have a gaming rig that will keep you going for a couple of years, and that plays that holy grail of gaming, Crysis, without breaking a sweat.

  Q6600 Review

Intel Core2Quad Q6600 processor is easy to overclock, which makes it the best quad core processor out there.

Even if you do not want to overclock it, it is still good with its 2.4GHz core speed and 1066MHz front bus speed!

I recommend it to anyone. Although there are not many application supporting multi-core processors!

  Q6600 VS THE WORLD
Review created: 27/11/08
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

One of the best if not the best price vs performance chips on the market, without going into 45nm technology.

£150 retail Q6600, easily overclocked to 3GHZ.
Quad Cores @ 3GHZ range from £800-£1000
The Q6700 @2.66GHZ retail is around £80 more expensive, for 5 minutes work in bios, best money you can earn.

Check benchmarking data for full reviews this is a kick ass chip!

This is a high processor that can be overclocked at the extream, these processors are not very expensive, infact quite cheap, and you can have a powerful computer at an exceptional price, this is the best processor i have bought so far and wont be buying another one for a long time yet the performance it gives for the price you pay is unbelievable i have no regrets or hate about this processor so no more can be said.

  Q6600 Fantastic value for money!
Review created: 27/06/08

This chip is awesome, supremely overclockable, decent FSB speed a must for gamers on a budget!

i'v paired this with a £50 8600GT and an XFX nVidia 680i mobo and it keeps up easily with more expensive and apparently more powerful systems, with a lil overclocking of course. I have my Q6600 running at 3.2GHZ (stock speed 2.4GHZ) and its running beautifully.

well worth £100ish of anybodys money. (Replace the stock cooler tho! like with any intel chip.)

This chip rocks.
Energy saving as it runs at 1.7GHz when you are just surfing or minor office use and then kicks in at full speed when needed.
Remember you may need to turn on cores 3 & 4 in bios with some motherboards as a rule.

  Quest for speed
Review created: 25/06/08

Q6600 is a well positioned processor. Scores highly as a future proof component. Might not be today's best chip, but for the money it offers so much, it just has to be the deal of the day. In the box, you get the chip and the all important fan.

For clockers, this might be a waste of dosh when compared to super cooling components: that's not what I want. I traded that for a stable product with recognized quality of function.

Must get the right motherboard, one that supports a fast memory, fast graphics etc. If working to a budget, these can be up-graded as required.

Since I started planning my new machine, I've seen the cost creep down very gradually. However, the motherboard has been a constant: so if you're pulling the bits together, start with the board, then watch for the bargains to be had.

This processor does it all, the speeds are fast and no waiting around! blitzes huge applications with ease. Reccomended to all as a medium end processor but if u want high end then buy the quad core extreme! .

overall.. Great little number for stressfull cpu demanding tasks.

Wow amazing processor. Overclocks brilliantly and is very stable, more so than any dual core processor u can buy. Never mind all the 45nm and 65nm stuff. So what if it is 65nm and if it is old technology. It is still the best processor for the money and will be furture-proof for years to come. It really does give you the 'best bang for the buck'

Quad Core, and now at a budget price

Many people extol the virtues of this processor for overclocking. And yes, the potential is great, so long as you accept the need for adequate cooling and the likelihood of increased noise as a result. But what of those of us who seek silence?

I installed this processor in a PC used mainly as a home music studio, with some exceptionally resource-hungry software. I do not overclock, as I do not wish fan noise to contribute to my recordings, but I do use a decent cooler - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro. The result? Little short of amazing!

2.4GHz may sound like a drop from my previous 3.2GHz Pentium D - and I have to say the Pentium D had itself been a dramatic improvement on the 3.2GHz Pentium 4 I used before. But the Q6600 is in a league of its own by comparison. In computer down-time, I run Distributed Computing projects (via the 'BOINC' platform) and this gives the opportunity to benchmark the individual cores. The Q6600, without any overclocking, benchmarks at about 1.5 times faster (per core) than the Pentium D - Intel's replacement to 'Netburst' technology is just that much more efficient.

A note of caution - not all software is set up to benefit from quad core technology as yet (though you can be sure any background processes will not interfere with your work). If you work with higher spec music or graphics software (and I'm sure there are more categories too) you will get the full benefit. In any event, this is a really fast CPU - energy efficient if you go for the G0 stepping - and now available remarkably cheaply too.

And it's good for a 5.9 on the 'Windows (Vista) Experience Index'.

Highly recommended!

PS: It might not be the very latest design – but bear in mind, not all Intel’s newer processors are necessarily ‘better’ – they have now broadened their range, and whilst the sky seems to be the limit for the high-end models, the budget offerings (with lower L2 caches etc) are very unlikely to out-perform this old-stager.

  Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
Review created: 20/11/09

Fantastic performance for the price, i have the G0 stepping so suns much cooler at higher clock speeds.

The CPU itself can run stable at 3.6GHz 1600FSB with water cooling and about 3.4GHz stable with air cooling.

I,m a gamer and personally recommend this for any gaming enthusiast/web developers because the power of multi tasking is supreme for the money.

I have had no hardware conflict issues at all and i have seen on forums that games only utilise one core, but i can see from various programms i have that the all 4 CPU's work in harmony when either playing one game or using several applications at the same time.

10/10 The only next best CPUS out there are the Extremes and the hike in price is steep.

Is it really such an improvement?

The processor works perfectly well and I feel it quicker, but I don't find it to be double as good as a core 2, but just similar. For what I know, the problem is that you need the software to be ready for using the 4 cores and I think most of it is not. I guess it would be really good when more software is developed. If you are with a tight budget better go for a normal Core 2.

i needed Quad for gta iv
Review created: 10/03/09
by:
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

i had core 2 duo which struggled badly to run gta iv so i upgraded to q6600 & the game now runs very smoothly so yes very happy with the cpu performance,if you're looking to overclock one of these then make sure you get one with low vid something like 1.250vid or lower, the one i bought had a low vid of 1.225, the lower the vid the less voltage you will need to reach highier clock speeds & the less heat it will generate the longer it will last.

i bought a new q6600 (from scan) with 1.325vid it needed 1.46 volts to reach 3.3ghz & it wasn't even stable but this lapped one i bought from ebay only needed 1.36 volts to reach 3.5ghz & its stable & runs cooler due to needing less voltage to overclock.

hopefully my q6600 & hd4870 graphic card should be enough for my gaming needs for the next 2-3 years.my next built will be i7 which by then should be as cheap as the q6600 built (cpu,motherboard,ram,gpu..etc) is today which is just about affordable.
