  Another excellent Intel Processor

I bought this processor when I built my latest desktop (I always do it myself as it works out cheaper & faster); and have not been disappointed. I've had no reason to overclock this CPU as it is THE business.

My last two laptops have been Intel Pentium-M's, at 1.6GHz and 1.86GHz respectively, and now I've had the E6600 for a couple of months I can happily say that this is the chip for me; it blows the laptops out of the water.

I also built two PC's while I had the slower Pentium-M using AMD's X2 dual cores - both of which had much higher clock speeds than the 1.6GHz of the Pentium - yet the Pentium still blew them away with superior stability & power!

In my mind, Intel still have the upper hand over AMD; so if you want a powerful, futureproof CPU then go with the E6600. You will not be disappointed!

With regard to quad-core CPU's, don't bother. So little applications are written for 4 cores that they are a serious waste of money. Go with dual cores for the next couple of years!

I hope this helps!

  Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz

The Intel® Core™2 E6600 desktop processor combine the performance of the previous generation of desktop products with the power efficiencies of a low-power microarchitecture to enable smaller, quieter systems. The certain processor is 64-bit processor that maintains compatibility with IA-32 software.
This processor supports several Advanced Technologies including the Execute Disable Bit, Intel® 64 Architecture, and Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology and supports Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel VT). With this Intel® Core™2 Duo desktop processor, you'll experience revolutionary performance, unbelievable system responsiveness, and energy-efficiency built in – up to 40% faster and over 40% more energy efficient. Intel® Core™2 Duo processors are the new brand name for next-generation energy-efficient performance desktop and mobile processors.
The Intel® Core™2 processors for desktop and mobile computers are based on the Intel® Core™ microarchitecture, Intel's new industry-leading foundation for all mobile, desktop and server platforms moving forward. Compared to Pentium 4, Core Duo (not to be confused with Core 2 Duo) offers low power consumption, low waste heat and high performance per clock. This is almost an exact opposite to the Pentium 4 which used so much power that the ATX specification had to be modified to add more 12V rails, and produced so much heat that they often throttled and made reaching 4GHz almost impossible. Not only this, but clock for clock performance wasn't stellar – hence the need for higher clock speeds in the first place.
Core 2 Duo is the next generation on from Core Duo. If it wasn't completely obvious, the "Duo" portion of the name indicates that these Core 2 Duo are dual-core processors. Unlike previous Pentium D processors, these use a shared Level 2 cache (2MB or 4MB depending on the processor). This can be dynamically allocated depending on the task being run. For instance, if running an application that isn't multi-threaded (i.e. can't take advantage of a second core), then the primary core would get the full 4MB of Level 2 cache. Having more Level 2 cache means that fewer requests need to be made to the system memory – one of the biggest causes of latency. So this makes E6600 one of the most powerful processors ever made introducing low latency and low power consumption. When idling, the Core 2 Duo E6600 will drop its multiplier from 9.0x (2.4 GHz) to 6.0x (1.6 GHz) to conserve power. With these power saving modes enabled, Core 2 Duo system conservs 17W of power (for example 186W to 169W) and rans about 5°F cooler than when power saving mode is disabled. This isn't much of a difference, really, as the "Conroe" architecture already is fairly efficient in terms of power consumption and heat production.
In order to show the superiority of Core 2 Duo E6600, a CPU arithmetic test (SiSoft Sandra 2007) was conducted involving several processors. See carefully the results:

Core 2 Duo E6600 (3.0 GHz)* --> 27690 !!!!
Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4 GHz) --> 22137 !!!!
Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 GHz) --> 19738
Athlon64 FX-62 (3.0 GHz)* --> 21873
Athlon64 FX-62 (2.8 GHz) --> 20382
Athlon64 X2 4600+ (2.4 GHz) --> 17495
Athlon64 X2 4200+ (2.2 GHz) --> 15994
Athlon64 X2 3800+ (2.0 GHz) --> 14515

*overclocked processors

My first computer had a celeron 400Mhz processor and i thought it was the business until i upgraded to an athlon 1700. Since then i have tended to stick with AMD for my processors For two main reasons:
1. I am a creature of habit.
2. AMD were coming out with some seriously good chips.
My last processor was an Athlon64 3500 which i was extremely happy with because i had it running stable at 2850Mhz, which was 650Mhz over stock.
I damaged my motherboard with "a mod too far" (i'm sure there is a film about that) so i had to upgrade in a hurry.
The Core 2 Duo(C2D) has had great reviews so i decided to give it a try.
So After upgrading my motherboard (Gigabyte 965p-DQ6), and my memory (2Gb Mushkin pc2-5300), And the C2D E6600 i was not dissapionted with this processor.
It is a bit of money to have to shell out but i think it is worth it.
It runs like a dream and it will run at 3.4Ghz without breaking a sweat.
I use watercooling but even on air it is a great overclocker, even if you are not sure what you are doing and leave everything on auto.
It can go much higher but i am not going to push it just now till my funds manager(wife) recovers from the shock of this upgrade.
My mate has a dual core Athlon and this chip blows it out of the water.
I would have no problem recommending the C2D to anyone thinking about a big upgrade at the moment.
It easily runs at 1Ghz over the stock speed which in anyones language is an absolute bargain.
So far i can only see pros with this processor and no cons and although i tend to favour AMD over Intel, ultimately i will buy whatever gives me the best bang for my buck, which at the moment is definately this chip.
I have given this Processor an excellent rating as good doesn't quite sum it up.
10/10 to Intel.

  E6600 Core 2 Duo
Review created: 06/09/07

I purchased this processor for use in a complete new build desktop. At the time of purchase the E6600 was widely recommended as offering the best value for money out of the Core 2 Duo range and the attractive price that this new factory sealed unit was offered for through ebay made it a particularly attractive proposition.

This processor has performed magnificently since purchase and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of making a purchase, although apparently the recently launched E6750 is only slightly more expensive and is even faster.

  Not that impressed.

I bought the E6600 as i upgraded from a 6 year old AMD Athlon 2500 XP processor and wanted some thing faster.

Good points
-----------
Is a dual core2duo with 1066 FSB.

Will fit any socket 775 motherboard

Runs at around 35c on idle.

Can be overclocked to run up to 3.4 ghz on normal heat sink and fan with windows XP running ok, but at 3.4ghz it can get very hot.

When overclocked to 3ghz runs ok and is ok for general office work use.

Ok for doing things at home which don't need a lot of processing power.

Bad points
----------
Not enough power.

Unless it was overclocked to 3ghz the E6600 didn't feel any faster than my 6 year old AMD Athlon 2500 XP and the AMD only has one core compared to the E6600s two cores.

Infact in some cases the Athlon felt faster than the newer E6600.

At 3ghz there was a chance of shortening the processors life, so leaving it at ghz wasn't really a good idea.

At 3ghz some times the processor felt jerky and stuttered a bit.

At 2.4ghz it was ok, but not that fast.

A lot applications i used use to grind to a halt some times or run very very slowly while the E6600 was "working things out". For some thing which had such good reviews in the press i expected it to be fast and smooth, It wasn't and i wasn't impressed by it.

As soon as i got the chance i got rid of the E6600 and got a Q6600 (quad core cpu) which is much much better and is what the E6600 should have been but never was.

Conclusion
----------
If your moving up to dual core processing and want a decent 2nd hand processor the E6600 is a good entry level processor and will out run ANY budget processors you can find.

But if you do a lot of video editing, play a lot of games, do a lot of number crunching or edit a lot of large photos don't expect the E6600 to do it super fast as it won't.

  Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz Processor
Review created: 12/11/09

The E6600 is an excellent performer for the price. Quite good for games that are single threaded, excellent for multi-processor games with plenty of on die memory and a fast front side bus running up to 1333MHz on the LGA775 slot. This cpu is far more powerful than the stated clock speed - they are very over-clockable, a bit like the old P3 in terms of stability and durability. Make sure you use a liberal amount of thermal grease and that the cpu heatsink is free of dust, the fan spins effortlessly and if you like the extra power available from these GHz reservoir's spend some of the dosh u saved on a temperature monitor/display. Nice :)

I replace my old D945 for the E6600 and it doubled my PC performance. Excellent!!! Now the CPU is easy to find on Ebay and at a very good price, as an alternative to E6600 see also the E6700 which is practically at the same price.
Beware of the Engineering Sample 2 core CPUs (see the link)!!!

I am upgrading to this CPU (E6600 2.4GHz) from Pentium D 805 (2.66 GHz).
My Display Card is ATI 3850 512 AGP and the 3DMark06 (1680x1050 no AA/AF) scores has goen up from 4900+ to 7900+ after upgrading.
The CPU is cool and has great overclock protential.
Playing game like Call of Duty 5 with no problem.
Recomend this CPU for the people who still using Pentium CPU but has an good display card (3850 or above for Ati and 9600GT or above for Nvidia).

  E6600 CORE 2 DUO 2.4GHZ
Review created: 10/07/08

VERY STABLE CPU, RUN STABILITY TESTS FOR CPU RAM HDD TEST CAME OUT 100% NO ERRORS, FITTED UNDER A FREEZER PRO 7 COOLER RUNNING IN QUITE MODE AND 2 120MM CASE FANS THE CPU RUNS AT 45C UP TO 49C UNDER LOAD. I HAVE FOUND THE GRAPHICS ARE VERY GOOD WITH NO STUTTERING AND WINDOWS XP PRO AND THE INTERNET RUNS FASTER THAN THE CPU I HAD FITTED BEFORE WHICH WAS A INTEL PENTIUM D DUEL CORE 3.2. I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR A UPGRADE FOR THE MOTHERBOARD FOR SOME TIME, FROM THE ACCOUNTS BY OTHER USERS ON THE NET THIS CPU IS A GREAT OVERCLOCKER STABLE UPTO 3.4GHZ. I AM NOT INTO OVERCLOCKING SO CANNOT CHECK THIS OUT. ALL IN ALL VERY HAPPY WITH IT.

  Intel Core™2 Duo E6600, 2.4 GHz E6600 Processor
Review created: 10/02/08

Having been using a P4 3.2ghz processor for a while I decided to upgrade since my cpu was the limiting factor in my pc build and an upgrade was required to enjoy the latest games in high settings. The e6600 has a niche in the mid-range budget cpu's and for what I paid for it, it's a complete bargain. The cpu coupled with my Asus p5n32-sli motherboard and an Arctic pro cooler 7 overclocks to 3ghz with no overheating. Throw in my 640mb 8800gts and 2gb 800mhz ram and you have youself a powerful pc able to play any game in max settings (maybe except Oblivion) but definately crysis & bioshock at max.

  Intel Core™2 Duo E6600
Review created: 04/01/08

I upgraded a computer from the AMD XP2400+ to this (in fact, I had to upgrade almost all of it!). With regard to the processor speed improvement, it was definately visible, but not as amazing as I was hoping. It installed Windows faster, but takes as long to get to the start screen as the XP2400+ once you have loaded the usual suspects in (Office, Acrobat, antivirus etc etc). However, the start up is much faster, and once on the start screen you can be opening an internet explorer page in about 5 seconds - a far cry from the minute or so the old XP2400 would take as it struggled to open the various usual applications such as antivirus, MSN etc etc on start up. Teamed up with an ATI X1950XT Graphics card, I have been amazed at the difference in graphics and also the smoothness on gaming.
I would say that to get more of a wow factor, a faster hard drive (raptor) or RAID setup would give you the faster loading times to really get the most.
All in all, this is a very good and very stable processor that will give you an affordable and clearly visible increase in performance speed with near instant opening of windows when not under load, but dont expect to fall off your chair!

  Core 2 Unbeatable
Review created: 07/09/07

I have two of these one being the E6600 and the other the E6750 1333 mhz fsb cpu
they are great processors and totally easy to keep cool i decoded an mpeg movie to dvd with the 6600 and it did not get above 30 degrees c! my old pentium d idles at more than that power wise they are a good move beacause of the tdp of 65 watts which is low power draw and they have a lower latencey than the pentium d beacause of the smart cache on the cpu chip! rather than transfer cache (pentium d) which has to go through the front side bus altogether great value too especially when you consider that the e6700 beat amd top offerings not too long ago and the fx cpu was nearly 600 pounds from some places, core 2 has brought high performance to people who could never have afforded 600 pounds for a cpu they can now have an even better one for around 100 pounds if amd have a cheaper answer which is better im all ears!..
